Copper and Howard shouldn't be on the court at the same time. The ball is going to go up the second either one gets it

Another game thread where Angel Reese is prominently mentioned. I didn’t watch the game so I checked the box score and there it is - Reese with another double-double. Almost automatic.

Tonight's game much less impressive. Just very selfish play all game long. Players not looking to get any kind of offense going, just the first player who gets an open look shooting or driving. And I don't know why they're not letting CC run the offense, makes zero sense.
Insecure mediocre coaches trying to assert their primacy over Caitlin. Same old, same old.

Caitlin really isn’t that valuable if she’s paired with forwards who get a defensive rebound and then cosplay as LeBron dribbling right past the point guard and trying to take it coast to coast, or wings in the half court who just isolate and play one-on-one once they touch the ball. She was much better when paired with billings, paige, and Kiki.

A few easy baskets and mebounds, mixed in with a few good rebounds. Otherwise cosplayed as LeBron - unsuccessfully - showing just how selfish and/or dumb she is. And this isn’t about her antics in college. I don’t care about that anymore. This is her directly negatively impacting team USA and Caitlin.

There’s a lot of wnba fans that think that Reese and Clark are a perfect pairing. Idiots. Just watch this video of her ball hogging every possession, making dumb passes, and not looking to give it up to her teammate on the outlet. This doesn’t even show the mishandled passes, horrible point blank shots she put up and missed, the many times she was blocked, or the idiotic fouls on defense when trying to do too much.

She just needs to be Rodman out there cleaning up every rebound possible, playing defense, and getting some junk buckets.

Last night was a waste of Clark’s abilities. Limited ball movement, poor spacing, too much iso ball. There was one possession that looked like they called an actual play in the halfcourt and ran it to perfection for an easy layup. Otherwise it looked like an all star game of players that had never practiced together. I know the coach is looking to see what works and what doesn’t, but why not try to do that within some semblance of a choreographed offense?

Exactly. And I if I was the coach and I saw what angel was doing I would have yanked her off the court. You get a five-minute turn if you do what you are supposed to do.

Watch the game and let us know your thoughts.
Like Clark, Reese’s game is pretty well understood at this point. One game by either player is not going to materially change that. Clark going through a 1-31 3Pt shooting slump does not change her earned reputation as a good shooter.

Reese is a WNBA career double double player (approx 15/12 IIRC). She already holds multiple WNBA records (including most consecutive DDs). She is on a path to shatter multiple REB records (already holds season REB record IIRC).

“”menounds”” lol - they can’t stop her from rebounding her missed shots. Everyone knows she’s a lousy shooter and they can’t stop her. When did ORBs become a negative state? “Do not rebound your misses” said no coach ever.

I don’t care at all for AR’s personality and hate all the drama she generates but you can’t deny what she does on the court.

The question is not whether Angel can regularly get a double double. The question is at what cost to offensive efficiency. It is also ugly and boring basketball.

She’s a one dimensional player- a phenomenal rebounder. If she ever accepts her role she could help teams win a lot of championships. The idiot that stuck the “point forward” idea in her head should be kicked out of basketball for life. As long as she keeps trying to do more than she’s capable of, she will be a detriment to any team she is on.

Spot on. As Herky T Hawk stated (as have I in the past), she could be female Rodman and a tremendous asset. But as long as she does all of these other things screwing the offense up, she is a liability despite being great at rebounding her own misses.

These clips of Angel deliberately icing Caitlin tell the story. Coaches didn't even pull AR out of the game to explain to her she is not the point guard. This is not basketball, it's politics. And, it's driven by Lawson, White, and Bird.

I think there are some politics involved, and favoring tenure over talent. But I don't think they really favor a player like Angel. What I do not understand is why she doesn't get pulled and coached up after doing things like that.

I agree. Reese is an elite rebounder and a decent defender. That is her value to the team. She gets to the FT line too. Add a couple blocks and a few buckets. That’s her game.

Yup, she's a rebounding machine but not sure she's much of a game changer. Does alot of dumb ****. Does any one her size get as many shots blocked as she does? Hell 5'6" girls can block her shots. Meh.. give us AB... would like to see Citron? Too.

Caitlin Clark holds the WNBA record for most turnovers. turnovers are a cost to offensive efficiency. Still, a coach would have to be a complete idiot to try to change her style of play.

I’m not a big fan of Angel Reese. There is no scenario where a franchise would take Reese over Clark. Clark is unquestionably superior. At the same time, I’m willing to at least acknowledge that Reese may be the greatest rebounder in WBB history.

We get it, Angel can rebound. But, there are better options in the post, given Angel's attitude and style of play. On this team, I would play any of the post players before her. I would even put Howard in the post before her. Once September rolls around, she should not sniff the floor (or maybe even the team) with Wilson, Stewie, and Boston in the mix.

Personally, I’d take Alyssa Thomas above any current player. In the last six years, she has at one point lead the league in most rebounds, most steals, most assists in a season and can score. Very athletic and smart.
