I like Ben, but I don’t care for his take on the Hausen shot.

You can’t assume you’re going to get fouled, or get the call in that situation. Perhaps tOSU is yelling “foul him” to make you believe they are about to foul, fooling you into doing exactly what you just did.

Ugly sequence.

Agreed. It's a stinker of a take and a brutally ugly shot. TBH, I'd have preferred Cam to take that shot over Hausen.

Here's the 51 second take.

Are these 2 posters right? Or, does Ben know what he's talking about?

Ben McCollum:

"Trying to get them to understand that you're not just a win-a-conference-tournament-game team. You're not just a make-the-NCAA-Tournament team. You need to be able to win those games... Trying to go from really good to being great is something that is really hard to do and our kids need to understand really good is not acceptable. It's actually worse than being just bad."

All of the above tbh but I appreciate my ball knowledge being in comparison to a D1 coach 😉.

Good out of bounds play, taking the shot with time left = smart, but the shot itself was ugly as sin. I know BMC will defend his guys (wouldn’t expect anything less) but Hausen is the last person on the team I’m putting in that position. My non Stirtz option is running Coop to the corner 100 times out of 100. He’s been on a heater and I’m riding it.

Good take. Having not watched the game I just checked the box score. Surprised to see Hausen play ten minutes I assume all in the second half. Even more surprised to see Hausen set up for the last shot. It doesn't matter how well he shoots it in practice. He hasn't performed in game time when it really matters.

Ride the hot hand of course. Simple concept but Ben overthinks things at times.

I think you nailed it. I think that's exactly what OSU did, and Hausen fell for it. As I said in another thread, Lisa Bluder and the Iowa women ALWAYS found a way to get the ball to Caitlin Clark in situations like that, and almost always Caitlin hit the game-tying or game-winning shot. You could look it up. So I don't know why the men couldn't set screens or whatever to set up Stirtz and/or Alvaro for that shot. Alvaro drilled two huge shots late. You mean Iowa can't figure out how to get either Stirtz or Alvaro open? I don't get it. I love Ben, but sometimes I can't help but wonder what the heck is goin' on.

Ben is a mid level coach for his ceiling.

I just watched highlights and nice to see Folgueiras hit those two pretty 3s late. I still would have gone with Koch or Stirtz in that situation. I find Ben's coaching hard to figure out as well. The Hausen situation has seemed strange all season. When he had opportunities he never proved himself a go to guy. This game and the Penn State game Ben had poor answers in his post game about Sage and the Hausen shot in this one.

So, Ben messed up in your opinion & he is wrong with what he said here?

Well, Ben thinks you are both wrong.

I was wrong in stating the FACT that Lisa Bluder ALWAYS found a way to get the ball to Caitlin Clark in game-winning situations? You may disagree with my opinions, but you can't logically disagree with the facts. Go look at the YouTube videos of games like Indiana. With Iowa down by one and 1.5 seconds to play, Lisa has Caitlin in the far corner. Caitlin loops around the three-point line where Iowa has set not one but two screens, and Indiana defenders are knocked out of the way by those screens. Kate Martin tosses the inbounds pass to Caitlin, who is still on the move. The pass is behind her, but she reaches back, grabs it, spins, and fires an off-balance three from near the opposite sideline from where she lined up. Swish. Iowa wins by one. But Ben says well, we knew Ohio State wouldn't let us get the ball to Bennett, so we were going for this and that and the other.

Bluder NEVER said anything like that. She practiced those late-game sets, and her players executed them. When the game's on the line, your All-American had better get the damn ball. Lisa Bluder's All-American did . . . every damn time. Ben's? Nope. And @ Minnesota when Stirtz did get the ball--twice--for potential game-tying shots, he missed both. But at least you had your best player taking those shots. (Hausen also had a 3 in that sequence that would have tied it but, of course, he missed too.)

Everybody in the known universe realized Iowa wanted Caitlin to take those last shots. Bluder didn't let the opponent, not even 26-1 Indiana, dictate things. Bluder did what she needed to do to get her best player the ball. And because she did, Iowa won. And even if Caitlin had missed, you couldn't argue the strategy because getting the ball to your best player is what great teams do, in football as well as basketball.

The most disapointing portal transfer. What a waste of resources. My one criticism of Ben taking a flyer on that guy.

I wouldn't have had Hausen in the game in the first place. Have given up trying to figure out why we keep going back to the well with him. 0 points again in ten minutes of play.

Well, I guess that's why you are sitting at home and Ben is coaching on the sidelines. ;)

Yes, you were wrong in the following exchange, according to Ben.

Neither of you "nailed it" with your postgame takes, according to Ben.
