I heard that a lot after the duel. “It’s gonna be different at big tens” lol
one question, try and answer honestly as you can, if you are a true wrestling fan with some sort of integrity the answer is clear. Did Rocco pull Ferrari's singlet, yes or no?

Because they are pretty terrible at challenges. Like really bad.
actually historically they are good at challenges. They must not have seen because the angle otherwise they would have gone nuts even without a challenge brick, the side ref had a perfect view

Angelo should be more offensive. We'll agree there.

He lost this match on 4 seconds of riding time in tie breakers. Rocco gained that advantage in part because he hung onto Angelo's singlet to prevent the escape. He pulled Angelo's singlet earlier in the match while defending a takedown. Does Rocco win the match in tie breakers even without the singlet pull? Perhaps. But those singlet pulls should have been called.

Water under the bridge. I just hope the coaches and refs pay real close attention to the cheater next time. Hopefully McFlurry wipes the mat with him tomorrow
No he doesn’t with. One that caused Angelo to put him down instead taking him down alone would win the match. I think PSU fans forget that Brooks made the Olympic team because his opponents finger inadvertently caught in his singlet for a second. Could that stop a guy like Brooks? Of coarse not, but rules are rules and it gave Brooks the win.

Angelo was a major bright spot on a rough day imo. That version can still win a title though it’s certainly not likely. His performance today changed the count for possible NCAA champions from 0 to 1 imo.

The hawks didn’t wrestle that poorly today and that’s the problem. This is the result of a weak lineup, not a bad performance. That’s why there’s so little hope for NCAAs and beyond for so many fans.
To be honest, as gassed as Angelo was at the end of the first match against cocky Indiana kid, I was shocked he was more active than Rocco and even hoisted him in the air twice. He must have dug really deep for that match. Rocco was relaxing, eating, hydrating during Angelo’s first match. I honestly thought he would get his *** kicked because of gassing.

so the PSU fans’ argument is they got 8 in the finals so therefore Rocco didn’t grab Angelo’s singlet multiple times and Rocco didn’t go out of bounds when Angelo had his leg up in the air… got it.

one guy took multiple shots (AF) one guy did not! one guy grabbed a singlet multiple times to win (Meathead) one guy did not!
Oh and Rocco has done this several times this season never getting called.

One more thing, every year there is one guy on Pedstate that screams Im on the ****, two years ago it was Brooks, last year it was Kasak, this year its Welsh. Very very clear to see yet somehow they get away with it
Beat me to it. He was pissed at Tom Ryan for having the audacity to suggest he go 184 to make room for Karchala coming back because he didn’t think he could be big or strong enough for 184. Well one offseason at PSU and he looks like a small gorilla with a bunch of tattoos, and seems every bit as big and strong as McNelly, who I was sure would be the biggest strongest 184 in the country until he graduates. Should have known better. Like Brooks, I bet Rocco did this without even lifting. Nothing to see here folks.

I don’t really care about the stalling/not stalling questions, especially at 184. When you get a top 5-10 matchup at 184, it’s almost always a 2-1, 3-2, SV, or TB match. Everyone of them is so afraid of making a mistake that they wait for the right opportunity to try something. The stalking debate comes down to the refs, the matchups, and the perception of how the match is going. Not worth wasting time thinking about.

The singlet pulls are frustrating. They directly changed the outcome of the match. Welsh won by 4 seconds of riding time in TB’s. Two of the singlet pulls occurred in TB’s when Ferrari was trying to escape. Either one of those could have prevented Ferrari from escaping. Maybe, maybe not but it’s no different than grabbing a guys shoe laces or locking hands. It’s an illegal advantage.

The most egregious pull was on the takedown attempt. Ferrari was elevating Welsh and was adjusting him to tip when Welsh grabbed the singlet to keep his balance. I have no idea how none of the coaches saw it. I have no idea how two refs missed it. There’s no denying that it happened. That’s a 3 point takedown negated in a match that went to SV.

There’s no way to go back and fix it. It is what it is. I’m just hoping that this comes up when the refs do their post-tournament review and discussion. This sort of stuff can’t happen at nationals.
It was done to help a PSU #1, so they will not be discussing it.

Agreed. The loss to Welsh in that fashion only happens in Happy Valley. I don’t think Angelo loses to him again, maybe ever. And I think everyone knows it including PSU fans deep down. Hope it’s another QF match at Nationals.
I’m not going to say he won’t lose to him again this year with not looking himself recovering from these injuries. Who knows how bad the arm injury is. But starting next year I agree, there is no amount of juice or hanging on singlets that will save big Rocco.

I am really enjoying this thread.
The one guy throwing out the pedstate insult . Great job. Not even going into it.
The singlet pull costing Ferrari the match . I could go to a youth novice tournament and a singlet strap isn't going to hold a 6 year old down. Its elastic. Does anyone really believe sliding Ferrari shoulder strap around cost him the match ?
Holding onto that strap gives him just enough of a handle on a sweaty body to hold him down those few extra seconds to win. It’s not like he wasn’t touching him otherwise, and just held him down as long as he wanted to with a singlet grab. JFC.

Interesting officiating discussion from Ridge Lovett starting around the 51:30 minute.

For those who don’t want to listen. He tells a story about his freshman season dualing PSU when the official came into the Nebraska locker room to give his prematch spiel. The official had a PSU lanyard hanging out of his pocket and Ridge told him nice lanyard and the ref then tucked it back into his pocket.

Not sure who the other guy is but he says he was sitting near the officials and appalled by some of the things they were talking about. As in what coaches they like and what wrestlers they like. And they were talking about a certain program that the officials didn’t like and they made a comment about them having a built in excuse for not winning in the finals.

Seems like a clown show that confirms what non-PSU people all see with their own eyes.

Super tough to beat any team when you’ve got the best recruits, some of the best coaches, the best “supplements” (wink, wink), more money than everyone else, the refs in your pocket, and apparently the Masons and the good Lord on your side.

That’s like hitting the exacta, trifecta, superfecta, and the super-super-trifecta in every race.

Honestly, PSU might deserve even more credit for pulling all of that off for this long and somehow not getting caught. Pretty impressive run if you think about it.

I hadn’t thought of this but what if God is leading the refs to help PSU. I mean it kind of makes sense because he is helping their wrestlers win so they can share his glory. Who is to say that God would stop there?

The officials didn't even try to hide the bias at B10s. It really is horseshit and like they said, PSU is almost impossible to beat with fair officiating. With bias officiating they win all the 50/50 matches too, which makes them unbeatable. I have said for years PSU matches are officiated like the officials are scared of Carl so they never call anything against them, warranted or not. They should be done hosting everything for a little while at least, so maybe that will help with the home cooking for the tournament settings. Bias officials make reviews completely pointless as well. They ruled everything a certain way for a reason and it wasn't what they saw, so why do you think they will change anything? With reviews officiating shouldn't be that difficult, but wrestling has built in a handful of super subjective rules to make things much fuzzier and it opens themselves up to making terrible calls and finding excuses to justify the terrible calls. It is really frustrating as a fan. I can't imagine how the wrestlers and coaches feel.

Angleo got in deep, had Rocco in the air, why did he walk to the edge of the mat to plant him and try to finish? Walk to the center a finish in the middle. Twice ir happened then look to the reff fo a stall call. Earning a stall call is partially about selling it. Hustle to the center, act like you want to be there. Angleo walking to the edge then slow to the middle doesn't help the narrative and "earn" a stall call. Neither wrestled to win, both were trying not to lose.
He needed to turn around and walk to the center of the mat rather than take him to the edge, imo.

As an old school hawk fan, brands wrestling fan(not fan of their running of the program) its embarrassing to hear the whining and excuses. PSU has cracked the code like gable did….only better. In time psu is good for sport because all will have to step up like okie st did or die! Look at vactech and osu progessing! All your whining doesnt change the fact that tt lost the program due to stubborness and not willing to adjust.
The refs arent on list of why psu wins. Turn the page snd pray for new progressive leadership.

You can expect the ref to call a match fairly. If you watched the match Angelo’s knee wrestling decreased significantly and that was an obvious gameplan thing.

Get your head out of your ***. Angelo did not spend half the match on his knee. He got in on 4 shots, including 2 very deep ones were he lifted Rocco straight up into the air.

What did Rocco do? He had one nice deep shot in the third but besides that he blatantly stalled on top in the 2nd period and straight up cheated with at least 3 singlet pulls, including once in tie breakers that prevented Angelo's escape.

You are absolutely right. The officials are not the reason for Carl's success. I said as much in my rant. What does Tom not running the program the way you like have to do with what I said about bias/poor officiating? I also never mentioned Iowa in anything I said so how would that be making excuses for Iowa wrestling?! PSU is really good and the officiating is really bad lately. That is what I said in my post and I don't know how anyone could argue any different. The refs and rules are absolutely a major issue in college wrestling right now imo. To add, yes being a ref is a tough job, but they are compensated very well and they have instant replay to help get calls correct at the NCAA level. Being a high school official with no replay or super slow motion to help with calls is way harder, and the pay sucks for that compared to college too so I don't feel sorry for these NCAA tournament officials.

Good teams in other sports often get the majority of good refs calls. Why? Because better players force lesser players to make mistakes. Players foul because they are out of position, fooled or are beat. Wrestling is not much different. PSU gets a lot of stall calls. Why? Because they get a lot of take downs and put a lot of pressure on the other guys. They get replay calls because they initiate action. They don't get all the calls, just seems like they get a lot. But the initiate a lot of action. Plus the Gods and Masons are on their side.

This is not far from truth, but even most refs back in the day had spines and integrity so they were able to not be ***** if coaches got on them! All of the refs nowadays are embarrassing little bitches because they have been given way to much leniency and there is no consequences for their actions.
