Luray girls have had a nice season, and no disrespect to the Lady Bulldogs - but Galax is on a different level.
There were 3 very good teams from SW Virginia on the one side of the bracket that could've won the Girls A title this season, including GW and Honaker.
Clarke County Eagles and the Strasburg Rams were probably two of the better teams in the state in Class 2, which made Clarke an even better team - the Eagles, which won the season series 4-1 against the Rams, are led by senior forward and Region 2B Player of the Year Alainah McKavish, who’s averaging 20.7 points, seven rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.6 steals and 1.9 blocks per game. As a freshman, McKavish was the leading scorer on the Eagles’ Class 2 state championship team.
But Union is battle tested from the rugged SW girls battleground (don't be fooled by their 19-9 record) - and the all time scorer in school history is on this year's team - Katelynn Witt became the all-time leading scorer in Union girls basketball history with her 38 points in their state semifinal win over Ridgeview - Earlier in the season, Witt also set a school record with 43 points in a win over Wise Central, breaking the previous record of 42 points - and she's JUST A JUNIOR.

But to me, the popcorn match will be the boys - Luray vs FC is the most interesting to me - and it will be the battle of the Owens - Luray has JMU-bound Matthew Owens (20.4 ppg) and company with the experience from last season's playoff run - but FC, which just crushed a really good Patrick Henry team in the state semis - has high scoring Owen Jackson.
Owen Jackson hit 1,000 pts as a sophomore against George Wythe on January 7 - He’s did it in history making fashion, the player to do it the shortest length of time in the state - is averaging 33.6 points per game,, ranking 8th nationally in scoring
