Still less expensive than when Sleepy Joe was in office. You have a convenient memory.

The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was approximately $2.39 on Joe Biden's first day in office in January 2021. During his term, gas prices reached a record-breaking high, peaking at over $5.00 per gallon in June 2022.

The lowest local price was roughly $3.99 per gallon. It is now up to roughly $4.39 per gallon.

I generally buy gas at either Costco or (more frequently) a nearby unbranded gas station. Directly across the street from that unbranded gas station is a Chevron gas station that invariably charges about $1.00 more per gallon for its branded gasoline. ("Get Chevron with Techron!" is that company's advertising slogan.) The funny thing is, that it is all bullshiat. In between my undergraduate days and my commencing law school, I worked for a very large oil company, and learned that this company sold a whole lot of its gasoline to unbranded "dealers" (an oil company term for gas station operators). This is because federal legislation known as the Petroleum Marketing Practices Act ("PMPA") requires it. Nonetheless, there are millions of Americans who still believe that gasoline dispensed at unbranded gas stations is somehow inferior to gasoline dispensed at branded gas stations. LOL.

I don't believe I have EVER paid more than $5.00 per gallon for gasoline, and (excluding Hawaii) I live in perhaps the costliest gasoline market in the country. Prices have at times climbed into the high $4's per gallon, but not over $5 per gallon. Actually, the lone exception to that is the Lake Tahoe basin area. Prices up at Tahoe are always about a buck per gallon higher than in the Bay Area and Sacramento. So I try to gas up in Sackatomatoes before continuing my drive up to Tahoe.

So is it not ok that gas being high during parts of Biden sucked... and now gas being high during Trump also sucks? Especially given the circumstances why gas has gone up?
I was talking to one of my German colleagues last week, their's also went up 1EUR per L overnight except for one gas station that he said had a line of cars all day.

I don't think Americans realize just how expensive car ownership in Europe is

Two weeks ago, at the Buc-ees in Harrisonburg, premium was 3.29. This morning it was 3.79. Here in Arlington this morning, I saw signs advertising premium at 4.29. I wonder what accounts for that difference.

Off topic - so I see RFK Jr. is having rotator cuff surgery. That'll be fun for him. Mrs. A had it a couple of years ago, and when she came home in her big brace contraption she was saying it wasn't so bad. Then, at about 11pm, the anesthesia completely wore off, and she frantically called me into the room, convinced that something was terribly wrong. Called the doc's office, which told her to actually take the pain killer they'd prescribed. Problem solved.

Wow, that is off-topic but I can relate as I'm still recovering from my second rotator cuff surgery and I can vouch for when the nerve block wears off, the pain is untenable, haha. Good thing it's only that extreme for about 24-36 hours and then you shouldn't need the pills anymore.

yep, that's about how long Mrs. A needed them.

I remember as a kid that my dad was wildly paranoid about any time of controlled substance. If he had a procedure and they gave him something, he would immediately come home and flush it down the toilet. Coal-country upbringing, I guess.

I've always been that way and won't take pills unless absolutely necessary. Hell, I bought a big bottle of coated aspirin ten years ago and it's still almost compltely full.

Its still early, give Trump a chance its only been a week. I paid $4.09 this morning.

Trump will have the distinction of presiding over 2 of 3 biggest economic disasters in recent history (Covid and Iran). Bet he wishes he had a role in the 2008 financial meltdown so he could be 3 for 3.

These losers really think they're going to go in and dominate a civilization that's managed to last over 5000 years. Pathological hubris.
