The athletic ranks the SEC portal classes. They seem to base their grades on snaps added and lost, which seems fair unless you sign signifcantly fewer portal guys than you lose. I don't think we did enough at DE and OL, but we processed a lot of guys who had no business being on the roster and added quality depth on defense. I would've liked to have kept Work and James, but Bingley-Jones wasn't a huge loss.

Sounds about right. I think the big minus is we lost 3 starting OL and replaced them with a bunch of young guys who haven't played yet. They may turn out to be good long-term signings (if we can keep them), but probably not a whole lot of immediate help that we need.

Schools now don't even give out D's anymore. It's A, B, C, F on a 10 point scale.

I've been as big of a Lebby basher as anyone. What happened with Sneh is completely unacceptable for an SEC program. Bad process with how we pursued the LT position in the portal & bad processes create unsustainable winning, if you do win. That would never happen to an Oak type staff. We should demand better from our people or get new people. Simply insane to me that we knew we HAD to get an LT & didn't have anyone lined up when the portal opened. I've heard the market surprised us but that's ridiculous when you talk to agents everyday. Simply people not doing their job or being incompetent

That said, this ranking is crap. Our portal class was pretty good, with the exception of LT. This is just a bad article that piles on a program they know little about

Agree. Except I don’t think this portal class is as good as we’d like to think. I hope I’m wrong.

Work was horrible but we haven't really upgraded from James.

This shows how little you know
Maybe we did & maybe we didn’t. But the people who rank these things don’t seem to think we did. And I’ve heard the story that we’ve found the “hidden gem” that everyone else overlooked often enough to know it usually isn’t true.

It would be hard NOT to upgrade James 'The Bullfighting Matador', he would step aside from rushers like a matador and let them run right by him. I don't care how big he was, he was slow and got bull rushed way too many times and just turned around and looked to see if Shapen was getting up or not. And don't give me your usual crap about he's big, got potential, he'll be better this year blah blah blah

My two cents. Illinois and Miami both did something similar. They grew their lines from HS and filled in the rest with a huge transfer class. We could and should do the same. We will only be good every 3 or so years but the National Title blueprint has been written for a school such as ours.

Work going to Mizzou and how he performs will really show how competent our OL coaching is. I suspect we’ll see him magically improve to All Sec performer if my assumption is correct.

Yep. Can’t spend more than $4.5 mil on a football coach at State. It’s not the Templeton Way!
No way we hire two former Ole Miss assistants in a row, especially another one who has never been a college head coach. I know he was the Giants' head coach, but he flamed out there and was kind of a joke. I don't give a **** if he played at State (although I never heard of him until his name surfaced to replace Moorhead) or his wife played soccer at State. 17 him.

Could not agree more. He's done nothing to show he should be a head coach in the SEC. Or the NFL either for that matter.
