OT: Spring Warmth, 3/5-3/12+? Winter 2025-26 - Patterns and Potential Winter Storms

Always possible we won't have any more snow this winter, but it's far from a given. First off, the warm-up looks to be a bit shorter than forecast 4-5 days ago, as Thursday and Friday look to be in the 40s for most (maybe low 50s Friday) and not in the 60s. However, Saturday looks like low 60s and then 60s and 70s from Sunday through Thursday of next week. Should be nice.
But with another polar vortex split/stretching about to occur this week, which are often followed by colder weather 10-14 days afterwards, many experts anticipate more normal to colder weather for the eastern US starting around the 14th or 15th along with an active storm track, which would mean snow is possible if the cold and precip coincide at the right time, which is impossible to predict this far out. Remember, every 5-10 years or so we even have snowfall in early April (4" on 4/2/18 was our last time).
This is NOT even close to a forecast.

This is the Euro-AIFS showing total snow 15 days out on 3/18 with the snow mostly coming on 3/15 with some on 3/18. The Euro showed some snow in this timeframe earlier today.

Lee Goldberg was hinting at the return of cold around that time period. Sucks but hopefully since it's closer to spring and there will be more daylight things won't be too bad. I see Numbers is sharing the weenie map that he posted on American Weather earlier. Can't let the winter go!

Tuesday mid to upper 70s
Wednesday upper 70s to low 80s
then we drop to around 60 Thursday and back into the 40s to near 50 before more near 40 around St Pattys day with that storm chance

Geez was thinking of skiing next week. I like spring skiing, but summer skiing is meh.
I have skied every week since before Thanksgiving. This weather forecast sucks. Not a fan of skiing in mashed potatoes. Too tiring at my age. Was hoping for that polar vortex to get here sooner. Not going to be fun when it all turns to ice. If it extends the season into April, that will be good though.
Supposedly in a snow globe in a small town named Metuchen where mood flakes and pixie dust fall day in and day out. Where is and what is this place where snow covered streets and icicles are the norm and thoughts of sunshine and warmth are banned. You can find this little oddity in a little place called the Twilight Zone
It was a good run though.
Heading out to Tahoe on the 15th. That's the forecast I'm focused on.

It is a special place. Here's a pic from this morning showing a few inches of snow still on my property and in the park across the street, although with another 1/2-3/4" of rain tonight, I think most places will have little to no snow left by tomorrow. For me, today makes 46 straight days with at least 1" of snow on the ground, which is the most we've ever had in my 33 years here.
Many places well NW of 95 that got less snow were already down to mostly grass; was in Clinton/Pittstown (which got about 9-10" of snow) and Branchburg (got 14-15") yesterday and most of the snow was gone there. Even NB, which got 19" of snow was officially down to <1" today as per the NWS. So my prediction after the storm of most of the snow in the area being gone by 3/5 looks decent.
I am curious if that will apply in places like Manalapan which got 25-26", but I'll be there tomorrow to see. After 2 more dreary days, looks like things finally start to warm up on Saturday afternoon and the real warmth (60s/70s) arrives Sunday through Wednesday with somewhat cooler temps after that.

We just had food trucks outside for Employee Appreciation Day, not a whole lot of fun waiting in line.
The delayed warm-up finally hit today with temps in the 60s and 70s for everyone (except south facing coastal areas - especially E LI where it stayed in the 40s) and the next 3 days look great for warmth - might even hit 80F somewhere near Philly on Tuesday. In NYC this ended a streak of 118 straight days with temps below 60F, the longest stretch since 1981-82...and it melted the last of my natural snow, lol.
But then things cool off quickly early on Thursday with some snow even possible in the morning (accumulations unlikely), although the real cooldown looks to start late next weekend. The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) predicts below normal temps from about 3/14-3/22 (at least) and with above average precip, that means there will be snow chances, as we see a return to this winter's dominant pattern of ridging out west and troughing in the east - see Tomer Burg's tweet below. Much harder to get snow after 3/15, but it happens some years and we've seen a number of models occasionally showing winter storms (snow/mix/rain etc) in the 3/16-3/24 timeframe. Nothing worth worrying about yet, but don't be surprised if you start seeing chatter about it - plenty of snow maps out there already for 3/17-18 (see the AmericanWx thread).

That's what you guys said in early/mid-Feb and then most got 15-25" of snow on 2/22-23. Odds are much higher now of no more snow this winter simply based on climatology, but it's far from a lock, especially with the return of a colder pattern.

hopefully that will happen when the warm weather and growing season starts back up. I had a nice 8 foot "Goldie Arborvitae" that got blown to its side from December winds, staked, got blown over again, re-staked, then it was upright but looked like it had morphed into something where every branch was pointing to the side. I left for south and said screw it. I'll fix when I return.
In a trend thread, is there a tendency for actual snow. Nobody is talking about it except good ole Tomer. We are about to hit 70+ 4 days in a row but poor ole Tomer has to go to the lowest probability to post this nonsense. He is more of fantasy story teller then he is a meteorologist.
Can't people enjoy the weather??
When it ends on Thursday we will be in the 50s until a few day drop into the 30s.
And you can't use a past event to prop up this Tomer event forecast.

Its going to get chilly next week for sure and that will suck with a couple days in the upper 30s but should bounce back into the 40s the following week and moderate to 50s the last week. The winter days left are numbered you can count them on one hand.
all the mets look for clicks and the way to do that is to talk about snowstorms since there people who devote hours just to hoping for 2 feet of snow every storm
