I can't imagine too many guys wanting to come back. I actually mean that. It's been a disaster so far, and I really wonder if they actually respect Pope.

I would normally say that losing guys would be a good thing after this season, but I have no optimism that this incompetent staff can even bring in guys of equal talent next year.
If the current players do not want to play for Pope, why would new ones want to ?? That is certainly a concern ...

What should have been done day 2 is Oweh should have been told if you’re not going to play by team principles; we want you to leave and we’ll take our chances. He should have been told we are not playing for Oweh to get awards and for Oweh to impress scouts. Because that’s exactly what he’s been doing. And it probably would have straitened him up, likely.

Mark should have torn down some of these egos but he never did because they don’t take him serious. So we’ve got a leader who’s worried about getting 20, nobody else gets going because they know, it kills momentum and flow, no bonding, and you have no team. But what do I know, I’m sure everything is fine.
Why pin this on Oweh? He had almost identical shooting stats from last year ? And was by far the best player

My only beef with Oweh is he only got 4.5
Rebounds a game while playing 35+ minutes. An athlete of his pedigree on a team what wasn’t a rebound machine…..he could have done more there

But that is the problem with Pope teams…..they just don’t play hard night in and night out. But I’m not piling on one player….this is a clear coaching issue

Man if you look around you’ll see my opinion on Oweh I’ve made it clear. You can look back a little in my history and see. Don’t really want to go through it all again. I’m definitely not high on Oweh and I’ve explained it in numerous threads.

OK....so you're not an Oweh fan. But to imagine he's the main problem....that is non sensical.

1. As stated by many...the team/program starts and ends with the head coach...So Pope owns it more than any player.
2. From a player standpoint...
We good with Garrison, Jelly, Noah?
Chandler has grown a ton...but still lacks the handles and finish off the bounce
Diabate...while a grinder...has some woeful offensive skills
What about the no-show Lowe, Quantennce essentially Shady Sharped us?
I liked Aberdeen a ton down the stretch....but he was a combo guard trying to get to PG mindset

The list is long and loud before I get to Oweh.

Oweh is a team cancer. If you’re main go to is Oweh, you’re going to end up in a bad spot. Oweh kills offense flow, he’s a black hole, guys can’t get going, chandler his 2 3’s and never sees the ball. Oweh passed up a wide open chandler all year. All year man. One of the keys to winning more games was getting chandler hot. We needed it this year. But Oweh is too concerned with getting his 20, then once he gets it, he nearly stops playing.

Can’t tell you how play times we couldn’t get in any offensive flow because Oweh decided to pull up for a quick jumper. Drives the lane on 3 guys, can’t finish, misses a free throw. Chandler and Aberdeen wide open. We traded 3 points for 1 point all year. All because of Oweh.

It’s a catch 22. Once oweh decided he wasn’t going to focus on the team and instead focus on his stat line, we had to have him. Players and offense didn’t improve because of it, Chandler never got settled. So yes we had to have Oweh at that point to score and score a lot, but oweh to me is a typical team cancer. I think he created tons of team turmoil early on not expecting Aberdeen and likely didn’t like something about his contract. Either way, Yela signaled to some of this with his comments.

It turned into a team of separate pieces. You can clearly see their idea of being a team player was my turn, your turn, your turn. Not getting the ball to he right guys. Add in MO, and his black hole stuff, Aberdeen felt squeezed and wanted shots, and we have a crappy offense headlined by Oweh trying to get his 20 an impress scouts. Catch 22. Had to have him but not doing much with him. Oweh should have deferred a lot this season to other guys and chose to not do that. He’s not good enough to carry a team but he thought he was and here we are headed to 19-14. His defensive gambling kills us too. Oweh is a 3rd option defensive guy on typical Kentucky teams. If he’s scoring over 12ppg ish, then it’s not the right role.

All of this is Popes fault yes. He’s never reined it in and the players ignored him. Oweh rolling his eyes at Pope during the presser should have sent him to the bench for 2 games.

Agree. We can try and rank the many problems this team has but when your “leader” is a me first guy, that’s a fatal flaw.

Im not on the inside, but the above take on Oweh appeals to what i think i have seen. Lots of qualifiers, and i know nothing...but i do know that is the impression I get.

Wow...we see a completely different team. Oweh isn't a perfect player but he led last years team in scoring and we didn't hear a peep of cancer/turmoil?

So, if Oweh needed to be more defferent to other players....who should have gotten more shots and would have made the team better?

- Moreno?
- Chandler? (remember he is a spot up guy now....he isn't good off the bounce yet)
- Aberdeen?
- Jelly?
- Garrison?

Who all should have taken up the scoring slack?

And you make no mentino of the major issue with this team...effort, defense, focus, etc... Is that all on Oweh as well?
