I don't like it, but I don't completely hold it against Marcus either.
Unfortunately, we live in a society that tells specific groups of people that they are systemic victims when they go through the same situations the rest of us do.
For example, every time I was pulled over (which happened a lot) between the ages of 16 and 20 my car was tossed by the cops. Why? Because I was a young male and statistics said I had weed in the car. It didn't help that I was going through a late '90s punk phase and dressed like a bum who smoked weed.
I know I was profiled. I also understand why I was profiled.
I didn't have the world telling me that I was a victim for it and that it wasn't my fault that I got speeding ticket. My parents kept trying to hold me accountable at home to get me to stop speeding, but I wouldn't listen, so I racked up a bunch of tickets in my youth. I know I was speeding and that's why I had so many run-ins with cops and kept getting pulled over.
I was a grad student at USC and was pulled over in Florence and grilled for 45 mins. Why? Cause it was 2am and I was driving back to Columbia after a weekend visiting friends in MB. Cop was an a$$, but it wasn't because of the color of my skin.
Long post, but it always rubs me the wrong way when I see a normal traffic stop get turned into something else. But, people are told its something else constantly enough that they believe it. Its a fundamental lack of honesty that's driven by ideology and creating a victim class because it benefits a few to make strife in our society where it doesn't always exist.
