Whoa. That is weird. The article is way longer than when I first read it. It either didn’t load correctly or it was republished. Or I just goofed. I retract my criticism.

Very strange. No mention of women’s golf when I read initially as well.

One thing from the article that is probably overlooked -- such as the Rock thread on the search for a new women's basketball coach -- is the fact that the incredibly successful women's teams at NU are led by female coaches. With all due respect to Coach McKeown (who I consider to be a friend), until women are granted access to coaching jobs on male teams, I truly believe that it is unfair to female athletes at the major college level to have men as their head coaches. I see it as a parallel to the principal underlying the NFL's Rooney Rule -- which has, of course, NOT successfully created coaching jobs for minority coaches despite the fact that the clear majority of NFL players are black. Female basketball players, those not fortunate enough to be good enough to continue their careers in basketball at the professional level, here or abroad, must either look for opportunities in basketball media, or simply move on with their lives without the game. The fact remains that NFL owners and general managers generally hire coaches that look like them, as do college ADs. In my opinion, Geno is a hall of fame coach... but the powers that be at U Conn have failed their obligation to their female student athletes by keeping him employed.

Last time I checked female high school basketball players can choose where they want to play. If they have an issue playing for a male coach, they can elect to play elsewhere.

Also, the notion that UConn has failed their female student-athletes by keeping the greatest WBKB coach in NCAA history employed is preposterous.

I am not following this at all. Roughly 70% of Woman’s D1 Basketball Head Coaches are female. Its not 100%, but its going up. I would argue its far more difficult for a male to obtain a HC position than a female in D1 Womens hoops.

The bottom line is what are your qualifications? Have you won in previous stops? I have a hard time believing universities care whether you are male or female, black or white, straight or gay, if and only if they believe you can win.

At least four of the women on NU's team left the ranks of coaches after their careers were over because they saw such limited opportunities. PPD, they make the same arguments about black head coaches in the NFL, but how many are there now? I think the current total is three. You say it's 70% female coaches for NCAA teams? That's a lot more than 40 years ago when I was a groupie for the NU women's team. Maybe it's getting better if your numbers are correct, but it should be much more difficult for a man to get a job coaching women. The converse is almost impossible!
