"I will have an executive order within one week, and it will be very all-encompassing. And we're going to put it forward, and we're going to get sued, and we're going to see how it plays, okay, but I'll have an executive order which will solve every problem in this room, every conceivable problem, within one week, and we'll put it forward. We will get sued. That's the only thing I know for sure."

I absolutely do not want to make a political statement here on our fan board where we all get along and completely agree on everything, but damn if this isn't the Trumpiest statement Donald Trump could have possibly made.

But hey, at least the White House thought to invite some current or recent college athletes to the table so their interests were fairly represented. /sarcasm

How does he have the time from all the tv watching and social media posting he does?

From the sounds of it, he knows about this issue about as much as he knows about Iran or healthcare, etc. - so either nothing much will come out of it or it'll be another USFL situation...

Maybe the other side of the aisle will force Alabama to give us a Nose Tackle, Georgia give West Virginia a Linebacker, and LSU to give Miami of Ohio two Wide Receivers.

Honestly, I found it unusually self-reflective.

This order and a buck will get you a bag of chips.

It's a shame that things have gotten so bad in college sports that the NCAA itself can't fix it. In essence, they are a big part of the problem having let some college student athletes receive outrageous sums of money, primarily through NIL. It's something that never should have happened in the first place.

So, it now looks like an executive order from the president might be the best way left to solve the problem. And he has the backing of many well-known and experienced head coaches.

It's a long shot and will be difficult to get through the current Congress. But I applaud him for trying and perhaps some resolution to this out-of-control problem can eventually be found.

College sports are professional now. Presidential fiat to return to 10-15k “scholarships” is not tenable. Players are not going back to the old days. Will there be a presidential order limiting coaching salaries and athletic budgets as well?

There must be some kind of balance between player, coaches/staff salaries, athletics budgets and distribution of conference proceeds of media, donor contributions, etc. , all complex issues. Just have no clue how to approach it.

I don't think Trump has the power to do this by himself. I would like to see Congress get involved to restore some sanity.

The Don has done many things that should've involved Congress, but they just keep rolling over...

Apparently, instead of discussing proper and practical guardrails (which still are, in essence, limits on capitalism), a lot of time was spent discussing getting rid of NIL altogether.

Which is a problem since students that aren't athletes are able to engage in NIL, and banning NIL would mean the end of Olympic athletes continuing to compete on the collegiate level, not to mention the exodus of players opting for the draft instead of returning for another year (which has been a boon for the quality of college football).

The problem was the NCAA (and schools) fighting tooth and nail over the facade of "student-athletes" (particularly when it came to the revenue sports) instead of starting to share some of the growing spoils.

Yeah, the backing of coaches - who had no issue with keeping the players out of sharing in the revenue that they brought in since that allowed for the grotesque sums of monies that they were getting paid.

Last season in just the SEC, alone, coach buyouts totaled over $230 million.

I distinctly remember Dabo saying that he would quit coaching if players started to get paid; still waiting...

He has no intention of "getting it through Congress" (who, anyway, approves everything he does). His executive orders are fiats, and he has already said someone will sue. Then they will "judge shop". If they lose, he'll write another executive order. Like the tariff ruling

Yep, this isn’t getting resolved here. I think we need to wait for 2028 when Jake West has to give half his NIL to a Tennis player who isn’t making NIL.
Has anyone wondered how long Title IX will last in the NIL world?

How about when our next Anto Saka has to give 90% of his NIL cash to men’s tennis, women’s field hockey, and transgender swimming in 2029?

Will cats and dogs marry next?
