What in the hell has happened to Marcus Lattimore?

A thread like this pops up every couple years.

Im assuming he's posting very left leaning posts? Racist but political enough that half the country will rush to defend him?

Had a friend go through similar things before he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He also looked ragged and had long fingernails.

Hate it for him because people loved him. Somehow he turned that love into pressure, which I do get to some degree. I’m sure he felt the pressure to not let people down…but I’ve never seen a player receive so much love and support for an injury as he did. It was like a funeral. He could’ve been the most beloved Gamecock of all-time without playing another down.

I guess he looks at it like, “nobody would’ve love me if not for football.” Which he’s correct as we wouldn’t have known him. Just not sure how that’s the fans fault or the state’s fault.

I’d assume he really struggled to move past football with how it ended and started searching and found something that made him feel better about everything. Angry black man that blames white man for all problems. It’s a popular thing.

Sounds like he wasn’t even quite the guy we were told he was during his time at SC. It’s really a cautionary tale of what happens in so many places where a guy it pumped up to be something they can’t live up to.

I’ll always have a soft spot for Marcus Lattimore. Always. Hopefully he recognizes the love was genuine. If it wasn’t, I believe people would’ve have already written him off for some of the stuff he’s said.

He acted like a turd at Byrnes. Playing victim is the easy way out.

Who?? Nobody remembers him.
There are plenty of people that enjoy his poetry and I would suspect his poetry influences some folks. Not sure if you watched the video but his poetry certainly influenced the narrator.

Just because he doesn't play football and you no longer have an interest, doesn't mean he doesn't influence folks.

Free country. And he’s influencing no one.
Too much free time it sounds like but could be wrong. I do wish him the best. I have a few friends that feel the need to express "important daily thoughts" on FB. Sadly they don't realize that most people really don't care. Social media gives this false sense of self importance to most.

No ones poetry interests me.. Everyone has a story, and everyone has something. Blah blah blah. Wake me up when Marcus had it harder than Jesus. Then I might tune in. I will always have a warm spot in my heart for him. but white people aren’t his problem. And hopefully his wife or girlfriend likes his poetry.

People absolutely remember Marcus Lattimore. He’s the one former player of ours that people do remember. I live out of state and people often bring up Lattimore when they hear I went to USC. Not Shaw, Jeffery or Garcia. Ok, maybe some Garcia. But by far Lattimore. Hope we don’t all forget just how good he was here.

He’s also won numerous awards for his poetry. I read his book. I’m definitely not into poetry but some of it was decent to me which means folks who enjoy poetry probably loved it.

There was tremendous expectations surrounding him. His injuries and the aftermath were traumatic. Such a thing can cause mental disorders. I’m guessing post traumatic schizophrenia.

Can any of u garnet necks think before you post? (Becoming embarrassing for Shoe-master). It’s the price he payed for getting hit in the head damn near 20 yrs.

No offense meant but I believe its just much easier to play victim.

It doesn't sound like this is same guy we loved and adored. Regardless of what's happening now, Marcus' on-field football acumen was extraordinary.

How much of the athletes that's we watch are characters they present publicly? Differing greatly from their personal selves.

ironically, if you were to watch the video and then read some of the comments posted within this thread, some of you are proving the point of the video. That being Lattimore only had value to some of you because he was our great running back. I always thought the young man handled himself with kindness, respectfulness and dignity, I wish him well with his poetry and I hope he has found happiness.

Hey, I'm as big a Latt fan as there ever was, but don't act morally superior. He used his athletic ability to attain fame and riches most could only dream about. Good for him too, but he benefited.

None of you know me but if I gave you all 1 million dollars a piece I would only have value to you because I was a generous man. So yeah no one would have ever known him if he was Marcus the lunch lady.

And I suppose its ok when people attack HW in the same manner we are criticizing ML?
Cant have it both ways.
Why are you imposing what others do on me. I could care less how Herschel Walker chooses to act.
