If you haven't already. WTI up 13% on news of Kuwait shutting down production. Qatar warns if the straight doesn't open in a few days everyone in the middle east will have to shutter production and we could be looking at $150 a barrel in a couple of weeks compared to $65/barrel last week.

I hope Taylor Sheridan isn't done writing the next season of Landman. I could see Billy Bob going on a hell of a rant about why we need to drill more after a middle east conflict breaks out.

Starting to see some doomsdayers discussing how this also affects fertilizer supplies/pricing at the worst possible time. Guess we'll see.

Be interesting to see how people react. The sensible reaction to me is that if Iran has this kind of power to 17 the global economy even when their navy is basically in ruins, we definitely do not want them having control of that strait and nuclear weapons. But I am guessing that a lot of people's reaction will be we should have kept kicking the can down the road because you never know what might happen to change things. Not a crazy philosophy. If we have a real AI boom, it may be that all the people that irresponsibly kicked the social security and medicare can down the road will have ended up looking if not "right", at least not as wrong (b/c it was really a naked political calculation of 17 future people, I have to get elected now; not some bet on future productivity) .

This is not going to end well politically for Trump. Making things more expensive going into midterm season is not a good thing. I mean this as a statement of fact, not an assault on Trump.
I'm all for eliminating the Ayatollah, I just wish that damm meeting was a month later and didn't have to be right before we were planning to take the RV to Arizona for Spring Break next Friday. Ain't nobody driving anywhere in April.

This could be fantasy or it could be reality, but imagine Iran no longer being the world's largest state sponsor of terror. Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis lose their sugar daddy. China loses their cheap oil from Iran and Venezuela along with influence. Russia loses their key partners in drone warfare along with losing their influence in Venezuela and soon Cuba. Could be worth a short term hike in oil prices.

I took the RV to Wyoming when gas was at its peak a few years ago. The above GIF brings back memories

I know zero about how oil works, and what you wrote all sounds great. The problem for Trump is that no one is going to vote based on that happening down the road. If gas is 5 dollars a gallon it will be a blue wave at the midterms

Man. I am old enough to have been through enough of these sorts of things that it stresses me next to zero. I get why it is spiking, but this too will pass and prolly sooner rather than later.
I hope you are right

Stay calm, the fertilizer prices will moderate in 30 days. The oil will also so based on my lifelong experience if it goes on for more than 60 days then things can really be affected. During Katrina prices shot up for 30 days then slid back down.

I never underestimate the stupidity of the average American voter but making decisions for decades based on reelection forecasts is why our government and country are in the current state. Kicking problems down the road has been status qou for too long.

It's not the price of gas that you need to be concerned about. It's the availability of it. You younger guys don't remember 1973-1974 when there were long long lines at the gas pumps. Some stations imposed gas rationing and you could only get 5 gallons. I remember it very well. Keep all tanks topped off, cars, trucks, lawn mowers, and gas cans. And keep praying.

Dude, nobody is buying what you are selling in your previous post. Did the Iraq war make us safer? What is the objective and what does a W look like in this war? Because all I am seeing is the administration break promises and post a bunch of Ls.
Pretty sure I laid out very clearly what a W would look like.

Trump is trying to save our future!

Just kidding on both counts. Have a great trip and let all this stuff go! We're all going for a ride.

This may end very well for Trump. By doing all of this now and having something definitive to show - a ruined Iran and neutered China and Russia, the U.S. will be top dog again. Oil prices may be high - maybe sky high - for a few months, but it will start coming back down before September.

If Trump'd waited til after Jeffreauxdawg's spring break trip, he might have been cutting it close.

Gonna be cheaper for me in the long run regardless. I just found out I had a brake caliper sticking on my truck and was slightly keeping the pads engaged. I thought I had a major issue because my MPGs were steadily falling. Im about to get 2.5 mpg back at least for the cost of a brake job.

So it won't be as big of a hit at least

Seriously!
We were repeatedly promised multiple wars would end before he even took office and the cost of groceries, gas, and other goods would drop in the first day/week/month/year of his presidency. We were also promised a reshoring of manufacturing and an increase in high paying jobs.

I said when he was elected that I will happily take all that.

Any day now, I am sure.
In the meantime, I will go fill up soon, since I have to burn through at least half a tank tomorrow.

Makes taking over Venezuela oil a little more… smart
No, no it doesnt make that look a little more smart.
We still kidnapped a country's leader(regardless of if he was legitimately elected or not- that isnt for us to decide), put his next in line into power despite her being bad, and offered up the country to oil companies who have been very hesitant to commit(I saw Shell just did).

I am so tired of people trying to argue that the ends justify the mean when with enough time to allow for all sorts of outcomes, it is hardly surprising that something good could be loosely tied back to the initial event.

There is a timeline where none of this happens and Americans are also no worse off. What the 17 happened to 'America First'?

If you’ve paid any attention to to Tim Tebow lately you’d realize moral rot isn’t confined to Epstein Inc. I’m sure Tebow is just a part of the diversion plot though.

Pretty sure you led off by implying it was fantasy. What is the W for the everyday, average American? Because the kicking up a hornet’s nest in the Middle East for the sole benefit of an another nation only hurts the average American in higher costs. You basically rolled out the same slop we were fed in 2003. Again, are we safer after the Iraq War?

I dont know how much more we can ramp up. We've been increasing production just about every month since sometime in 2021, and have been setting new monthly records since sometime in 2023.

But, if the ME really dies shut down production, the prices will be so high Im sure we will find out how much we can produce.

The scary part is, as well demonstrated in 2021, when you stop producing oil you cannot simply go out and turn the wells back on when you are ready to pump again. You have to drill new wells. If the ME stops producing, it will be quite a while before we get back to "normal".

I don’t disagree, but the current do nothing DOJ has made zero arrests of the Epstein coconspirators or any of their “customers”
