I think that's right, but the numbers may also reflect Iowa having a large senior class and so fewer people who could transfer. Indiana had a ton of seniors, too, and that may be the case with several teams on this list. Not surprising at all. The players like playing for their coaches and being in the program. Most of us knew this already, but thanks for the Thursday afternoon boost Fran![]()
I think Iowa has been at or near the top for fewest transfers since the portal started. So I think that’s more reflective of a trend than a blip.I think that's right, but the numbers may also reflect Iowa having a large senior class and so fewer people who could transfer. All because of Kirk Ferentz. Dunker said he was not leaving Iowa for any amount of money.
I think Woods was a huge part as well. Hopefully, it won’t be too detrimental that he’s now gone.Definitely can't take that for granted. We even have better retention than the national champions. It all goes back to culture and having the right people leading the program. Kirk, Phil, Seth, Tim, and beyond all have the right attitudes and cultivate a culture that isn't just about winning, it's doing things the right way. Which goes beyond football.
Who has transferred in recent years who were starters or destined to be starters? Koen Entringer be one.I think that's right, but the numbers may also reflect Iowa having a large senior class and so fewer people who could transfer. Not many, and being a long time Hawk fan am not surprised.Who has transferred in recent years who were starters or destined to be starters? Koen Entringer be one.
He is literally at that 60% mark now. A 7-6 season would keep that afloat but not 6-7...Wait, are we talking about future Hall of Famer Kirk Ferentz?![]()

Not a blip for sure, but the extraordinarily low number may have more than one factor behind it. The most important one is the team culture.I think Iowa has been at or near the top for fewest transfers since the portal started. So I think that’s more reflective of a trend than a blip.
Not many, but there have been a few. Besides Entringer this year, Dakin was the regular punter and Brian Allen was a potential starter. Patterson and Washington had started a couple times, but unlikely to do so again barring injury. Last year, former starters McNamara, Sullivan, Leshon Williams, and Kaleb Brown. John Nestor had played a fair amount, probably would have started late in the season last year because of injuries among the DBs, and likely would start this coming season. In 2024: Petras, Vines, and Hill had been starters, Thompson played a lot and could have competed for a spot. And then there's Proctor. Regarding the other guys who transferred out, it's hard to know whether any of them could have risen up the ranks. Maybe CJ Bell and Bostick.Who has transferred in recent years who were starters or destined to be starters? Koen Entringer be one.
Proctor? Lolol.. He was NEVER a Hawkeye. NEVER. Dakin was pretty average at best. I was surprised to see Allen leave, so I think that one was about $. Almost everyone else you mentioned other then Koen was pushed down the roster by better talent moving ahead of them. Not many, but there have been a few. Not many big losses, for sure. In some cases it was addition by subtraction.
Herkin asked about former and potential starters, which is what I listed. I also noted there weren't many big losses besides Koen.Proctor? Lolol.. He was NEVER a Hawkeye. NEVER. Heard Dunker's mentioning of that. Love it!!!All because of Kirk Ferentz. Dunker said he was not leaving Iowa for any amount of money.

Thanks for clarifying. I assumed it was .6000. What a random number. Regardless, Kirk would be more upset with the poor season than losing out on the HOF.Actually, Kirk could go 6-7 next season and still be above the .5950 minimum requirement.
He's currently at .6016.
All of the numbers can be found in post #1 of this thread:
I doubt this will be Kirk's last season anyway. He seems to like his job. Thanks for clarifying. I assumed it was .6000. What a random number. Regardless, Kirk would be more upset with the poor season than losing out on the HOF.

If you have to make that adjustment for Leach? Why not remove that parameter?Take a look at post #1 in the thread below; they changed the rule from .6000 to .5950 because of Mike Leach, who had a career winning percentage of .5960
Leach deserves itIf you have to make that adjustment for Leach? Why not remove that parameter?
Jestin Jacobs but we replaced with Jackson which turned out great for Iowa for how productive he was for 2 years and Jacobs was injured often with Oregon. Not many, but there have been a few.
