With the results last night, as expected the Pirates cliched 4th place in the conference. An enormous feat considering the preseason expectations.

The Pirates will now play either Creighton or Depaul at the Garden next week after earning a bye in the first round..

I'm sure some will belittle the accomplishment noting the weakness of the league this year. Not me. These young men deserve praise for what they have done this season.

I think it is a very good accomplishment and SHU went from the worst of the worst to a good college team again. They deserve credit for not allowing this program to drift into total embarrassment.

They played tough all year and probably maxed out to their ability.

But I think it’s en vogue on this board to really over hype this pre season poll stuff. When these polls come out most posters immediately point out these coaches don’t know anything. Now with the tremendous turn over it’s even more. Them getting 4th is an accomplishment.

NO ONE COMPLAINED ABOUT US GETTING PICKED 11TH THIS YEAR. MOST POSTERS THOUGHT WE WOULD SUCK.

Every year these polls come out and posters will say who knows.

Most posters felt we would suck and than say but who knows no one knows this team

In the new turn over age these polls are pointless

Be happy we ended up 4th. Be upset it’s another year with no NCAAT. Hope Sha can add pieces that buy in to what he is selling and give it another run next year…it’s simple

I am thrilled we are in 4th place. I am thrilled with every accomplishment for this team.

But this yr, as I remember it the board would have voted us 18th in the preseason if that was allowed.

I have posted here 100 times how our two teams with the best finishes (89 abd 91) were picked 7th out of 9. And if we are picked by BE coaches to stink, then win 20 plus games I'll mention it again. The polls are not perfect, but often they are quite accurate.

Got it. Noted. We should extend Sha again, right? If it’s a great accomplishment give him a raise and extend him

Oh stop. I thought the last raise was a bad move. And this SHU admin picking a new coach scares the hell out of me. So I hope for status quo.

What I would love is SH in a Sweet 16 game, just to hear the reasons from the sha haters why this yr, sweet 16 is not that admirable an accomplishment.

You want SHU to get to a S16 to get back at a handful of internet posters?! lol

I am not a sha hater, I don’t think he’s great but think he’s been given a hard road, I give him credit for this group

But like I’ve said BEFORE he was even the hire:.,from what I’ve heard there are issues that I don’t love

We are coming off a 7-win season. We have no GM. Our head coach seemed to have no clear recruiting strategy this offseason. The administration completely botched NIL. Almost everyone on this board had concerns (and completely legitimate ones) that we wouldn't even be able to field a competitive roster anymore, let alone compete in the Big East.

And we won 20 games. We're 4th in the league, around top 50 in kenpom, with an outside chance at an NCAA bid. Basically, we are exactly where we left off with Willard. Obviously it's not where we want to be long term, but given the circumstances it's ok to be happy with this.

I don’t think belittle is the correct word choice here.

Seton Hall is likely going to be 0-8 vs the top 4 teams in the BE. There has to be some sort of asterisk next to that. 1-9 vs the top 5 teams.

Basically where we left off with Willard is a wild statement but sure we should feel good about

Although I’d argue Willard’s second season was way better and more enjoyable than this season and that is considered to be a very disappointing Willard year

It was a very enjoyable year IMO.
Respectable non conference performance.
Strong out of the gate in the BE.
Ranked briefly in the top 25.
A few marquee wins.

Almost exactly the same blue print as this year.

The major difference was those marquee wins put them in position to control their own destiny for a tournament birth.

Then they lost back to back games to the two worst teams in the conference when most likely 1 win would have gotten them in.

Unfortunately this is what people remember from that season. They don’t highlight the good, they lament on the “what if”.

Some will appreciate this year.

Others will look back at the 3 road games vs Creighton, UCONN, and SJU which were all there for the taking and say “WHAT IF”

Could have done an 8 or 9 pm start on Sat.
That's an awfully tight turn around. A 3 PM hockey game finishes at 5:30 or later.

You're typically looking at game times of 12 and 7 or 8.

You also presume there would have been a tv window available.

This was supposed to be a rebuild step year, and last year was so bad (even worse because they weren’t even competitive in most games), and 10 new players to integrate with two holdovers that got sparse minutes. Incremental improvement was hoped for.

Fourth place is much better than incremental improvement. Sha seemed to find better players that fit his culture.

This year isn’t over but he’s got to continue to build on this result next year. We are now competitive in NIL; not the dregs. Need Hines and Clark back period.
