Does UK need a FB or BB minded AD?

FB is where the money is at, BB is what UK is known for. So, would you prefer a FB or BB leaning AD to follow Mitch?
It doesn't make sense to try and force and establish yourself as an underdog in an already saturated field of every other college that prioritizes football when instead you already are the winningest basketball program and have the most loyal and supportive fanbase. To put it simply, basketball. Doesn't matter if football makes more money. You can make money being decent but not great in the SEC in football, but basketball is your prized possession.

Football
Football pays the bills and as far as I am concerned, college football is the greatest sport on the planet. However, the UK athletic director should demand exellence in the basketball program.

If he should demand excellence on the basketball side which already demands excellence by the fanbase and school historically. What should he demand from football that’s been at the bottom historically? Excellence?

I lean heavily towards football, because winning in football brings in more just based on economy of scale. It's the revenue generator and needs to be fed. It takes money to make money and the AD needs to focus on football.

That said, having a great football program raises everything above tide level. I believe basketball can and will thrive and compete for championships even with this type of AD

Mitch was very late to the table enabling both sports.
I wouldn’t say we are thriving now in basketball. Barnhart has tried to to do all he could to help football but being in the SEC is tough.
Stoops took football as far as it can go then turn around and got the asterisks by the 10 win seasons

Stoops took football as far as HE could, but Stein has the momentum to go further. I'm excited for football. No doubt.

I believe under a competent AD, basketball will do well. One thing to keep in mind is the SEC is not the SEC of old in basketball. The lack of competition that allowed UK to accumulate all those championships is no longer a thing. Maybe the next hire (no Mitch) will help.

I have strong doubts we will catch ucla in our lifetimes--as UConn, Duke et all are in a better position than us. Might as well put it behind football and look to the future. This is my opinion only, but I'll stand behind it

It's definitely Basketball for me. If the football team wins; great, but I'm a basketball guy and if basketball doesn't do well, UK athletics will become meaningless to most people.

Football may be where the money is at. But if you are in the SEC, the money is coming regardless of how well you do, although I'm sure if you do well then you can make more.
But more importantly, BASKETBALL is our identity, it is who we are. So without a doubt basketball has to come first.

Need a football oriented structure going forward. I would be shocked if we don’t get someone with a background at a P2 football school.

I think there’s some younger new era people who were influential in making a football change, I think they’ll be in the room for AD athletics going forward.

You also have JMI. Like em or hate em they’re here and media conglomerate people know football is king. Their deal works out better if football rises.

Same goes for the fan city plans. If there’s a big development. Basketball isn’t going to pay the bills.

Basketball needs to spin off with a GM/President.

Peevy name has always been thrown around as a potential guy. He got along with Cal so if Pope goes off the rails and Peevy is making decisions don’t be surprised if the band tries to get back together.

A Cal return may be a possibility regardless. He is one of 3 ish people who can do the job. He’s also one of the few who has the ego and personality to go toe to toe with the fan base, expectations, insanity.

If not as HC, he’d be a pretty good candidate for GM/NIL/recruiter/roster development.

Never thought about Peavy as a bb GM.

Why not? We have the resources to compete.

I’m all for it. As long as basketball stays what it’s always been. I don’t want basketball to to outshine any sport at UK. They can all win. But I’m UK because of basketball

In fairness, NIL and the portal has changed the landscape in both sports. I want to be great at both, but i sure as heck not sure UK will handle it in any sport.
