Most damning quotes are by former PSU player Myles Dread. Really good piece worth reading.

“A lot of times in a scouting report, you’re always looking to go over the team’s most used sets and you’re preparing for that pretty much in that two-to-three day prep period that you have,” Dread said. “With Rutgers, you spend about 30 minutes working on their sets and the rest of the time, you’re just practicing guarding one-on-one.” - Myles Dread

Its unrealistic to expect positive change with most of the same coaching staff and relying on returning players to produce a winning season. The talent level won't come close to the majority of B1G Ten teams. The transfer portal might even include some of Rutgers best players this season.Faulure to generate a winning season with Bailey and Harper was a clear indication that the mens basketball program was in a downward spiral. There is no recruiting area that Rutgers has made in roads attracting higher level talent.Player development has little relevance with NIL and the transfer portal.

20-38 in conf the last three years so something certainly isn’t translating to modern ball. Would be nice to get more NIL AND improve the offense.

Good (if damning) article. And I know foul shooting was not the focal point of the article but I’ve been impressed with Rutgers on that front this year and was surprised to learn they’re only 149th nationally.
If Buchanan could hit at a reasonable clip we'd be in a really good spot (though he did hit two big ones vs MD).

Weren't you the guy who suggested we hire Mike Boynton to be our coach?

Yet somehow we win some conference games despite having a roster not even worthy of Atlantic 10 caliber teams
hahaha against what...some pathetic competition..good lord..take victory laps

most horrible teams win some conference games..even PSU beat Iowa.

how ignorant to say oh well we did beat a few bad teams...the big picture is the goals are to make the ncaa tourney. I realize some like you are happy just winning some more games and being over 500 but no one in college hoops is winning ie NCAA tournaments playing Pikes kind of shot selection.

It is a known fact that Pike has the worst talent in the league by a long shot.

Yeah if only J Mike drove to the hoop more so he could get stuffed more we would score more.

I get shooting only in the paint and at the 3 point line but you also need players to execute that. Who is drawing people out of the paint on our team and who can we throw it into the paint?

We're not even attempting to run sets to put guys in position to succeed. It would be like a football team voluntarily opting to come out in 10 personnel and run into 7 man boxes perpetually with no checks built in. It would make zero sense.

We don't have anyone in the interior that could actually catch the ball effectively and then you expect them to actually catch the ball and make a basket?

Some schools are, it’s called player evaluation
How much does Francis make? I'm guessing around $300,000. He is our best player. I would guarantee you that every other conference foe's best player makes at least 5 times that number

So he’s a good decision. Other players on our roster making the same or more are bad evaluation decisions. It’s a net negative for our coaching staff

They are so much better recently and improvement is a credit to Pike.

Lazy journalism. Myles Dread?
Who does he want shooting inside?
Who is our three point shooter.

Mid range game our only chance out of necessity. SMH.

Do you watch the games? We absolutely run sets. Not all the time but you keep acting like we have these great dribble drive guards and dudes who can knock down 3s, where are they on this poor *** roster?

It's hard to get good three point looks when you have no low post players capable of drawing a double team

And IMO he's not worth that unless the market got grossly inflated again which is possible.
In this era of NIL combined with what he did in the Big 10 this year, for sure sure he’s getting a huge number in NIL next year. Entirely possible we get outbid for him, there will be a lot of interest in Francis in the offseason.

I clearly read the article. Crappy commentary by Myles Dread of all people.

Been a long time since we had an inside big man who can score on his own. Pike has done very well with cards dealt. SMH

I am a Francis fan, but I think he is only going to excel on a bad team where he is the focal point and taking the majority of the shots. On better teams, he is likely an afterthought. He is not a good defender or rebounder

College level sets? We occasionally run a horns set or motion that 4th grade girls teams run. Dont take my word for it, take the word of coaches and players that scout RU

It was a good enough offense to attract Dylan and Ace

Or Cam and Paul and RHJ and Gio and Francis and Jacob and Cliff and Mags…

RU players in demand… hmmm well coached dinosaurs?

All other schools pick apart RU when they need a player but Myles Dread and Fonseca. Must be true. SMH
