***Iowa HS Boys State Basketball Tournament***

1A and 2A action has already been rolling along with the District Finals (i.e. Round of 32) all set for this coming Tuesday. 3A and 4A finally kick things off themselves starting on Monday.

A quick reminder, this upcoming 2026 Boys State Basketball Tournament at the newly-named Casey's Center will be the last for at least the near-future, as the tournament will be relocating up I-35 to Ames beginning in 2027. Hilton Coliseum will be the next host for the Boys side after announcing a 5-year deal a year ago. That deal currently puts the Boys Tournament in Ames through 2031. As of right now, the Girls Tournament will still be held in Des Moines.

I'll post all Round of 32 matchups for each Class before Tuesday's contests, but until then, here is a link to the GoBound website for all HS sports stats.

I'll just say the NICL west is a shell of what it used to be. Hell I don't even know if it's split east/west anymore. But I do know my Alma mater is atrocious at sports and we used to have a stranglehold on the conference.

Maybe they do, in terms of scheduling, or just to decide a de facto "division champ", but at least on Bound it doesn't look like they have divisions anymore.

They do, however, have 4 teams in the Substate Finals between 1A and 2A. ;)

West DM Valley is 2-19.

WDM Valley is coming off four straight 20 win seasons including a 23-3 record and a State Championship last year...................did everyone just get tired of winning and decide to break up the band?

I just looked and 6 of the current members are "new" to me. Clearly I've been keeping up with it. I mean 2 of the former schools are now a singular entity and one closed altogether.

In to mention my son’s Tri-Center Trojans in Class 2A. We head to Sioux City Saturday to face Western Christian. That’s going to be a very tough game for our boys. But we are battle tested. 4 teams from the Western Iowa conference have advanced to district championship games. Treynor, Underwood and TC in 2A. Riverside in A.

Treynor, TC and Underwood all split their games this season. Treynor plays Underwood for the right to state. IMO Treynor is the better team, but I’d love to see Underwood end their season.

The TC boys, usually undersized against their opponents, just find a way to win. Slow 1st half team but find a way to turn it on in the 3rd and 4th. Down 17 to Cherokee 2 minutes into the 3rd, came back to win 77-74 in regulation. It helped to have the coaches son go off for 42 Tuesday night.

Early score in Des Moines, Woodbine leads #10 Madrid, 28-16 in the 2nd Qtr. Matchup of two State participants from last year that lost a number of key seniors. Madrid won State last year, defeating Bellevue Marquette in the Finals.

A-P struggled in OT to finish the game at the FT line and it comes back to bite them as Cascade banks in a 3 with 5 seconds left to tie it at 62-62. On to double overtime....

Full schedule posted with the close of 3A/4A substate finals last night. As a fan of a 4A team I'm rather bewildered how the schedule has changed since I was younger. It's pretty awesome (lol) that the tournament itself is now entirely on weekdays and the big schools are all basically during the day. Final 4 games for the big schools at 10:30 AM on a Thursday, seriously? Under the old pattern of Friday afternoon semi's and Saturday night final I might have gone down to it if they win the opener. I'm not taking a week off work to go watch a team my kid doesn't even play on. He's teammates with a lot of the basketball kids in a different sport so I know a lot of them and their families, so I really would have liked to make a trip down.

That game is Monday @ 3:45, so there is no BTT conflict. It would be cool to see some DM area hawk fans go to that game and root on his son.
