Per ESPN. Lower body injury. This program really is snake bit.
I wonder if he was playing pickup basketball like Peak. Shooting hoops is one thing but playing pickup games is another. All it takes landing the wrong way and you're out. We're paying these guys lots of money. There should be stipulations on activities they shouldn't be participating in.

Probably why he came out of the portal. How many portal transfers do we get that spend the year rehabbing their injury at our place. I truly suspect peak and Thompson had some sort of nagging issue that mysteriously appeared a few weeks after they get back on our roster.

He was getting ready to take another school's $$$ and transfer out, but they say this was a preexisting and ongoing injury that they now decided to fix. Does that make any sense?

From a report (my bold):

The injury is described as a "lower-body issue" (specifics like knee, hip, etc., weren't publicly detailed, though some fan speculation points to a knee). Thompson has been dealing with it for some time—he played through it during the 2025 season (and started consistently at left tackle in recent years, including 24 of 25 games over the past two seasons). Surgery was anticipated as the likely long-term fix "a year or two ago," but the decision was made now (post-2025 season) because it's necessary for him to perform at his best beyond college and avoid further complications.

Why the hell wait until now?

The surgery could have been done in 2025. Is our football program just freaking stupid?

Doesn't make a ton of sense to let him come back from the portal if we knew he was most likely going to miss the entire season anyway.

And Beamer acted excited that he was coming back. Why would he be excited if he knew of this pre-existing injury that he says they knew was likely going to require surgery?

I would like to know the details of when the nature of the injury was learned, and when decisions were made.

From this report, it just sounds very odd. They knew about it for years, but waited on the surgery till now?

How in the World do we field an Oline this year that can handle a SEC defensive line? I have to imagine that we have less returning Snaps for Olinemen than any team nationally- didnt we loose like 8? Now 9 with Thompson having lower leg injury? By the way what's wrong with saying foot, ankle, calf, shine, knee? Freshmen will be playing for sure- I hope they are ready to not be the biggest baddest kid on the filed because they will be blocking monsters. Right now, Oline and Dline look weak. That includes Stewart, whom I don't think is an edge protector, as he is geared to rush only.

Well, we actually have an OL coach this year, so that should help.

I don't expect to be a great OL, but if they can be close to mediocre, that's a massive improvement.

Like I said….this has become a trend. Players camping out at our place to fix an injury then move on. Hey Coach, I’m leaving for more money. Crap opposing team found out about my nagging injury. Hey Coach, I’m coming back. OK welcome back. Hey Coach, I’m gonna have surgery and be out for the year.

Im not sure we'll find out any time soon. He could be "a few weeks away" for months.

Basically, I'm saying I dont take our injury reporting at face value.
Yep, we'll obviously have a better idea as the season gets closer. Hopefully Peak can play but just because Shane says he's not out for the season really means nothing at this point. Hype is Shane's specialty.
