In the bottom half of the CCL I think Marmion and SPHS have a chance at a great reg season if they can take advantage of their schedules. Both face only 2 powers from the top half and they’ve got tuneup games in week 1 and 2.

Is Marmion bringing back a lot, do they have strong lower levels? They were not good last year.

Looks like I got wrong information - Morgan Park is hosting Niles Notre Dame in Week 2 and not playing Naz. Top post has been updated.

I am inferring Leo vs. Marian Catholic (no site info) in Week 9 given that they are the only two teams with "unknowns" in that week.
Likewise Marian Catholic and DeLaSalle in Week 4, Leo and IC Catholic in Week 5, Leo and DeLaSalle in Week 6 (assuming MC and BR play each other), Brother Rice and Fenwick in Week 7. With that, if these guesses are correct, we have a full conference schedule.

I'm hoping Rice isnt pullibg a Loyola Academy 2025 debacle and waiting to fill out schedule? Last checked they had two openings? Any word? Although the more I think about it - with expanded everyone gets a trophy approach Rice could still play 8 regular season games and most likely still get into playoffs.... makes you wonder if that will become a strategy now (rolling dice with 8 regular season games hedging you'll still get in and using it as a rest-bye week?)

Problem is that their "bye week", such as it is, is in Week 2 so you don't much need rest that early. There are numerous other teams with openings in Week 2 so that's not the issue, though I doubt people are getting in line hoping to play the defending 7A champs.

I've thought that too. Especially teams that play a tough schedule. I think MC has a week 2 opening officially. I know they have been trying to lock on an out of State team but if not let's do an home and away with BR! Won't count towards the conference, it would be hard to do but keep it light even, play backups....something!

Talked to Souc a couple weeks ago and he said no games yet week 1 & 2. In my thread down there we saw that SF and Wilmington are available.

Really hope it doesn't come to those matchups. For a team that won 4 games a year ago and returns relatively little from that even, starting off with 2 state champs in addition to the conference schedule seems unnecessary.

Even with the 2/3 win playoff cutoff now, I think a young team could really benefit from getting some runway with manageable games before the conference meatgrinder.

MC is the only game I see as a sure loss. Probably a small underdog vs PC and pick em vs IC. Favorites vs Stl, MC, DePaul & Pats. That being said, I agree that a couple of wins to start the season would be a good thing for this young group.

I think I would peg it as.....

Big underdog vs: MC
Slight underdog vs: PC, IC
Likely a slight favorite (but a loss is more than possible and to win all 3 would be nice but a challenge)-Laurence, Pat's, DePaul
Better win vs: Marian

So I count 1 "sure" win and 3 possible/probable wins. So going in, I feel like there are 1-4 wins accounted for. I am ok with one nonconference challenge, but would really like to find one gimme in the first two weeks. Especially with such youth at so many important positions.

Also hoping to see the Pomatto kid not come off the field. Would be great if he can carry the ball 15 plus times a game in addition to leading the defense. I think they figured out he needs the ball in his hands a little too late last season.

I count PC as uphill this year because I think their strength is in their rising juniors and seniors where JC is a little thinner. The frosh score seemed to be lopsided in JC's favor, which is unusual for this series. So I am hopeful the rising sophs and incoming frosh will keep the rivalry's momentum with JC.

Much will depend if they can get a QB out of the portal. If they do get one, I’m guessing you won’t see much double wing. They started moving away from it last year.

Does anyone know if IC Catholic is still going to St. Mary's (St. Louis) this year? They were originally supposed to play them in the old Week 1, and St. Mary's schedule still has that game, though it also has other inaccurate information.

Week 2 on JCA's site just listed SHG @ JCA

Saturday night game, which is interesting.

Nothing yet for week 1. With Providence week 3, you definitely don't want to go into that game at 0-2. So hopefully they find a sure W week 1. SHG should be a good game I can see going either way. Very young JCA team, but there is some talent there.

SHG must have wanted it on Saturday. I find that interesting as well. Kudos to SHG for agreeing to the game. Will be curious to see who they get in Week 1.

It's fine to bolster your schedule when it needs bolstering. JCA's 7 conference games are already pretty rugged. Nothing wrong with scheduling a challenge. I am glad they did in week 2. If they schedule a similar type program for week 1, that would seem unnecessary to me unless they just couldn't get another game.

They can finish 2-7 and make the playoffs, I think they would much prefer to win 3 to 6 games going into the playoffs though. Adding a second non-con the caliber of SHG would make 2-3 wins distinctly possible and I think most would want to avoid that.

Random thoughts and questions related to these non-conference games...

1. Love the week 1 and 2 opponents for LA -- especially the fact that there are two of them.

2. DePaul vs Lane Tech reminds me of LA vs NT when LA used to march from school to the NTW campus to play them. Will Lane march too?

3. Benet vs L-W! Perhaps the most out of the box and unexpected non-con game to come along in a very long time. Who approached whom for that one?

4. It's difficult for me to get excited about NDCP's non-con opponents. I'd love to see them try to schedule games against the likes of Evanston, New Trier, Prospect, Lake Forest, the Glenbrooks, etc. Heck, even Taft and the Niles and Maine schools make more sense to me than Westinghouse.

5. If MC and BR can't find a week 2 opponent, would it be the worst thing in the world for them to play each other twice? Obviously, it would make for a much more challenging schedule for both (especially the first three weeks), but I think it beats sitting at home on week 2 if it were to come to that. It's not like either school has to worry about not making the playoffs.

6. Love the Naz vs York and Rita vs PC matchups.

The openings as of now (which could include games that just haven't been announced):

- Week 1: Fenwick, Naz, JCA, Montini, IC Catholic, Leo
- Week 2: Brother Rice, Mount Carmel, Montini IC Catholic

If I read @Caravan92 correctly, Mount Carmel may have a game in Week 2 already. With the previous post saying "it's a banger", I suspect we're dealing with an out-of-state opponent since none of the teams I have in Illinois with Week 2 openings would count as a "banger" (other than East Side again, but that isn't likely). IC Catholic may also have a game Week 2 if they are still going to St. Mary's South Side in St. Louis.

My thoughts/suggestions on the others:
- For Week 1, Montini-JCA would be a very interesting game, though JCA might not want that to start the year. Lockport and Glenbard West have openings and could make interesting opponents for Naz and Fenwick; Glenbard West-Montini might even make for some fun. Leo may have some tougher games; Proviso East, Christ the King Jesuit, and Chicago Hope could make reasonable games.
- For Week 2, if MC and IC have games, then Brother Rice has an opening. Might they be able to get ESL to come up - or go down to East Side for what would be something like the Classic? Montini-BR could be a fallback; even Montini-ESL could be enjoyable.

As you probably know with MC and LA playing outside teams in week 1 the past two seasons the MC and LA Freshman and Sophomore teams have played twice a season. The opener doesn't count towards conference but it was becoming very difficult to find underclassman games for MC and LA

STL freshmen will host Loyola week 3 according to 8to18. Not sure why StL wouldn’t play CC and Loyola wouldn’t play Rita, but I like the challenge.
