Obviously as an incentive to come play sports there.

This is completely insane to me. The dude who's been breaking his back working in a factory for 35 years, working 12 hour shifts, has to pay taxes on his earnings. The single mom working 2 jobs has to pay taxes on her earnings. But a college kid who's getting a free education AND gets paid to play sports AND is making MANY times more than the factory worker and single mom doesn't have to pay?

I would hope taxpayers raise holy h*ll about this.

So, in review the proposal in Mississippi would be as follows

Policeman, Firemen: Continue to pay State Income Tax
Teachers: Continue to pay State Income Tax
Electricians, Plumbers, Auto Mechanics: Continue to pay State Income Tax

Ist string athlete making more money in 1 year than those above could ever dream of: Good News, all the money is yours

It's utterly unconscionable to me.

Are the people of Mississippi that desperate to win? It's immoral.

The fans could fix this. Take one year and just don’t give or go to anything. They’ll change the rules.

It’s crazy that fans who were the only people in this whole deal paying money for college football wanted players getting paid. They basically complained that they needed to pay more money. So dumb.

And here we are. What’s happening is Mississippi is just nuts. As long as people keep doing it, they’ll keep taking more money. The state will get the $$ needed so it’s coming from somewhere eventually.

I gave to the NIL once. I’ll never do it again. I despised it the entire year watching the return.

Yes. Fans work, pay taxes, but tickets, donate and then are asked to give to NIL so that players can live exorbitant lifestyles in college AND now not pay taxes if this thing passes.

Complete insanity.

The state was already on a path to phase them out, but that timeline was going to take over a decade.

We already have Texas, Florida, and Tennessee that have no state income tax.

Arkansas passed something similar last year in regards to NIL.

If people didn’t see this coming, then 🤷🏻.

After COVID my passion for sports dropped a little because my perspective and priorities were shaped. Seeing actions like this catering to athletes who play a game makes it drop further.

But money has always dictated changes, and college sports are BIG business.

And to be clear, this goes beyond Ole Miss and MSU. Add Jax State, So. Miss, Alcorn St, Delta St, Miss Valley St, and that is just off the top of my head.

Oh and I forgot, Nurses, EMT's, Restaurant wait staff, Oh hell, I could go on and on. Pardon my regressions, I'll will step down from ny soap box

Now you can take tax free money from a Mississippi school and transfer to another school for more NIL money. Next will be federal tax incentives 🤷‍♂️
This profession is growing into an art form with agents as johns.

The transfers will always happen, if a school with deeper pockets wants one of the players, they can easily compensate the State Tax with a higher payout.
Madness, pure and simple Madness.
