It appears that he went to a collegiate academy (probably to improve his grades) before going to Bethune-Cookman, where he red-shirted. He then transferred to Colorado as a non-scholarship player. Yeah, I saw that, only explains a 23 year old sophomore, but doesn't make it less weird.

Again, a terrible tragedy.
