Justice Heeg won State in Illinois at 157 where I watched the finals match which the announcers were looking forward to this match because his opponent his opponent was 49-0. It was a wipeout with a dominant tech fall by Heeg. Lots of takedowns and hard ride when Heeg wanted to. Heeg won State in Minnesota as an 8th grader and won State in Illinois last year. I watched Howards match in the semi's in New York and he won by tech. He is tall and dominant on his feet and is good with a cradle
Howard won by tech in the finals, very dominate soph. 157 from New York who won with lots of takedowns. He is number 2 at 157 behind Miller. He is also number 2 in the 2028 class behind Sanchez.

Lincoln Robideau is in the semi's winning by tech, then major in the quarters. Ignasio is in the finals of Oklahoma 6A winning by tech in the quarters and by pin in the semi's. He wrestles Smith from Mustang who is the number 1 seed. I watched the Raney matches in the finals and they are impressive. Jordyn won his 6th title.
Ignasio won 7 to 3 against Smith to win State. Villasenor got a takedown in the 1st and 2nd period to win the match. Apparently, Van Smith has had a very good year.

Is there any young Oklahoma wrestler that is in the State Tournament who the Cowboys would recruit who is a potential starter? I am not aware of anyone.

I thought of Jaiden Adams and he won State at 157. He was the 2nd seed and wrestled Anderson who Jaiden beat handily 10 to 4 and got 3 takedowns and could have gotten more in the 3rd period.

The Flo brackets are weird. J was was the 1 seed from the east. Every OSSAA state wrestling bracket has duplicates of every seed based on which regional they wrestled in.

I only paid attention to the 6a mat for the most part but I was impressed with Varrette (Ed. North -144) in the final. He wrestled Borge and he’s a top 5 kid at his weight n the country.
He’s going to Cornell apparently.

That was so close to a TD. Sánchez is a bad little dude. Looks like a cowboy to me. 🤞
Yes, if that match was 2 seconds longer it would have gone into overtime. If the match would have gone 5 seconds longer, back points and victory for Sanchez. Rock started very strong and owned the first half of the match. The second half of the match I thought Sanchez got in a couple of good shots with chances to score. On that last shot Rock did not react at all, he did fight and just barely held off the takedown as time ran out. Also Mario Carini won at 175 winning his 2nd State Title and he is a junior committed to Virginia tech. Could we flip him like Robideau and Vega? Nationally Flow ranks him 1st at 175. Younger, bigger Merrill won by pin in 35 seconds. He is committed to Iowa State and him and Ross will likely have a rivalry. They wrestled last year in freestyle several times and Ross won each but all were close especially that last match to get in the 20 and Under HWT finals. If I remember right Ross was behind with seconds left and pulled out the last second takedown for the win.

The Merrill Ross FS matches this summer were just not very fun to watch. Felt like a typical HS HWT match where little to nothing happens.

Lincoln Robideau won 9 to 3 in the Minnesota State finals.

Is there any young Oklahoma wrestler that is in the State Tournament who the Cowboys would recruit who is a potential starter? I am not aware of anyone.
"(P)otential starter" is a short list considering all of the young guns currently in the room.

Class of 2027 is just Villasenor (3X champ). The Coweta tandem of Cason Craft and Legend Ellis seem to be D1 guys. Both are 3X finalists and 2X champs. Craft lost his bid to be a 4Xer last night. More on that below. Turner Ross (Ed North) and Mason Burnaham (Coweta via Claremore) both stayed-on pace to be 4Xers. But they, as well as Craft, are each at low weights for juniors, 106 and/or 113. Each mentioned appear to have 10 or fewer career losses through three seasons.

Class of 2028's top prospect has to be Jaeden Adams of Stillwater. He has two titles and a 58-3 record so far. Aiden Jalajel of Coweta (120) and Brendan Bell of Ft Gibson (165) both stayed-on 4x pace. I am not sure either are legit D1 prospects yet. Bryar Hooks of Stillwater (138) won his first title and seems to be really good. I am not sure if he was injured last year or just could not make a tough Stillwater line-up as a freshman. Cache Williams of Carl Albert (113) had a great year. I believe he placed high at a couple of tough national tournaments before the season and just completed a 1-loss season with a win over Craft in the finals. A wildcard in this class could be Theron Davis of Mustang (215). He placed 3rd but during the season he defeated Ritson Meyer of Elgin, who became a 4Xer last night, by 17-2 TF.

The only freshman to win a title was Rylan Sandoval of Blackwell. He went 42-1 on the year and he has been age group competitive at a national level for a while now. Others to keep an eye on would include Jett Kline (Stillwater), Easton Pierce (Mustang), and Westin Pollack (Owasso),

It looks like each class has one top 10-20 PFP with another 3-5 potential top 100 recruits.

Currently, he is 47 and Cache Williams is 80. Jaedan (I misspelled in the first post) is a very good football player and only wrestles during the school season. I bet he climbs if he begins to wrestle some in the off season.

Millie Azlin of Bixby won her 4th title. Addie Morse of Bixby won her 3rd. She wants to come to OSU as well, but OSU really needs to get their women’s program sanctioned. A few top in state girls want to but can’t turn down scholarships to wrestle for a club.
Sadly that isnt happening anytime soon, if ever. It is way more likely all NCAA non revenue sports are reorganized somehow than it is to add non revenue at this time..

They are working extremely hard at it. Becca Roper (Lee’s wife) is super productive and driven.

John Smith is the assistant and it never hurts having the GOAT, with his ties/network involved.

I know Jolee Thomas, from Sulphur has committed. Her Mom and Dad are driven, well connected to people. One would think, Mr. Thomas is going to help make things happen.

Yeah Jolee, Millie and Addie are pretty close. There are some tough girls in the state the will go elsewhere if it can’t happen soon.

Aren’t we adding men’s ice Hockey? Maybe they’ll add women’s wrestling along with it.
No, I don't think we are. While its fun to talk about, the reality is that they would have to fully endow any new program before it would even be considered. It is more likely we will cut sports than add them at this point. Heck wrestling had something like 3-4 million in revenue and the most tickets sold ever and I doubt it will break even this year.

The Merrill Ross FS matches this summer were just not very fun to watch. Felt like a typical HS HWT match where little to nothing happens.
They certainly weren't the most exciting, but Coby outweighed Dreshaun by 40-50 lbs. One thing we can take from those matches is that Dreshaun's a gamer.

Winners win. The reason you wrestle is to get your hand raised at the end.

Blackwell’s Andrew Young wins the 157 lb state title to join Great Grandpa, the late Chuck Hetrick (former Mr Gallagher) and Grandpa Grady Hetrick in winning state titles.
Coach Hetrick was my high school wrestling coach at Stillwater High School. He graduated from Blackwell High School in 1941 and in those days [until about 1960] there were no different Classes (Class 6A, 5A etc.) so all of the schools no matter how big or small wrestled in 1 classification. There were 10 weight classes. Coach Hetrick was state champ at 133 lbs and 2 other guys from Blackwell also were state champs. That was enough for Blackwell to win the Team championship.

I was born in Blackwell in 1941 although we were living in Enid when I was born. My uncle Dr. Kinsinger delivered me. I never lived in Blackwell but spent a lot of time (summers) with my cousins there. Blackwell has a rich tradition in wrestling. I believe I have already recounted the story of my "epic" wrestling match with a neighborhood boy. This match was promoted by my cousin one summer in the late 40's. My opponent was little Teddy Pierce who grew up in the same block as my cousins. The match, if it could be called that, lasted only a few seconds and I can still recall scraping dirt and leaves from my back as I was ingloriously pinned. After a great career at Oklahoma State and an illustrious career as a high school coach, Ted Pierce was killed in a car crash. Other notable wrestlers from Blackwell included Bill McDaniel, Jack Briscoe, Ronnie Clinton as all were All-Americans and National champions for the Cowboys.
Another athlete from Blackwell played a pivotal part in my family's wrestling experience. Mark Leen came to Shawnee to
coach High school wrestling. Mark was a great athlete but in a different sport as he excelled in baseball for the Blackwell
Maroons. He also excelled in psychology and motivation and a determination to succeed whatever the sport. He coached two of my sons and led Shawnee to 2 State championships. The two sons, Micco and Joberfire both contributed to the success of the program and while both chose a career path in fighting fires in Tulsa but both at one time or another coached wrestling.
Micco was the assistant coach at Garden City under Mark Leen which produced two Juco National championships. He also later coached Jr. High in Moore, Oklahoma and in Texas when his wife was studying to obtain her doctorate in Psychology at Texas A&M and finally at Oklahoma University. Micco graduated from Oklahoma State but obtained a Master's degree at OU in Psychology before starting his career as a fire fighter in Tulsa. Jober was the interim coach for Shawnee Junior High while still attending college first at Seminole and graduating from Oklahoma State. He joined the Tulsa Fire Dept over 25 years ago and plans to retire in 5 years with 30years of service to Tulsa. His older brother Micco is a captain in the Tulsa Fire Dept with over 20 years of service and he plans to retire with his brother in about 5 years. Micco also recently retired from the U.S. Army as a Captain accumulating 20 years of both active and reserve service.
Their mentor, Mark Leen had a prominent role in their success in life and I am grateful for his influence. He has been inducted into the Oklahoma Wrestling Hall of fame and recently both he and the members of the Garden City wrestling team were inducted in the Garden City Hall of fame. Needless to say I am proud of their accomplishments and how they
have chosen to serve their community.

I like Jober more than Micco.

Micco obviously has a screw loose being an OU fan.

I actually love all the Obers (wives included). I feel extremely fortunate that I was able to meet and befriend like-minded wrestling fans with high character and great senses of humor.

Oberebo, take a bow. You raised em' right.

Interestingly enough...I also like Jober better than Micco.

He's a Diva.

The success of the acorns are due in large part of the shade provided by the oak tree. I can't begin to tell you all how grateful I am for having the loving home to grow up in.

I remember Leen and how good Garden City was 89-92. I was at Labette part of that time. Always thought Sammy Francis was part Jedi and loved watching that guy wrestle lol.

Proof of genetic mutation or simply that sometimes the apple rolls far far downhill and into a gulch? 😉
