Whatever fastball Rick Barnes ever had, he has lost it

Barnes is what he is. He’s never changed it’s the same thing year after year. Everyone thinks Texas made some massive mistake, I mean I don’t really. They seemed to just know he can’t get anything done big time and wanted to see what was out there. Can’t really fault them for Shaka, or beard. Beard would have killed it there if not for going Scott Peterson on his wife. Barnes should be done after this season I would think. And I don’t see him going past the sweet 16 either.
Barnes is a heck of a coach, but he’s never been able to get his great teams past the E8.
Barnes is a good coach. He has never been a great coach. 1 FF in all those years? He’s basically on the level of a Tom Crean. Hell, Lon Kruger has 2 FF’s.
Barnes is a really good coach. Exactly that, a really good coach. Nothing great nothing special. Barnes is what I call the top of the 3rd tier.
1st tier - Rupp K Pitino Williams etc
2nd tier - Calipari Boeheim Izzo Hall
3rd tier Barnes
It could be broken down into 1A 1B, 2a 2b, and it would change a little but generally that’s kind of how I think about it. Calipari not being 1st tier is a crime, it was pretty much a given but then, Calipari.
I think Beard has much better options moving forward than UT if he can find his footing again, but it’s gonna be hard to do at Ole Miss. he’s already done excellent there but I don’t know if he can keep it up. Ole Miss is a graveyard worse than any in the SEC. If Tennessee got Beard I would be sick to my stomach, unless over time it’s obvious his firing never allowed him to get back to his stride I don’t want any part of beard at UT just in case. And it’s a hire I could see them make. He checks the boxes.
Yeah I agree with that. He would definitely be second tier if he ever got over the hump.
I would want to put him 2nd tier but no other final fours, the way he ended, he’s probably one of the only coaches with a title I’d throw in the 3rd tier. I agree. What sucks is had he taken recruiting more serious and was willing to embrace AAU ball no telling where he would have ended up on those tiers. Pitino, Calipari, Tubby, man, college basketball is lucky the way all 3 of those went. Straight into the direction they needed it to. Opposite of what we needed. Coach K can thank Pitino for a lot of his standing and success.
