Top 5/7 at 285 in the country, from St. Joe’s Montvale, back on the market after decommitting from UDel for football.

Would we have any interest as a HWT recruit?

Is he a two-sport guy? That won't work. He said wrestling and football, not wrestling or football.
I agree it wouldn’t work, but based on rankings — he’s a low 3-star IOL in football with mainly FCS offers, but a top 5/7 HWT in wrestling — he’s a much better wrestling recruit. He will HAVE to pick a sport, and if it’s wrestling, well it’s a top guy at a top high school at a weight class of need.

If he’s not getting a big check for football or top school it’s a no brainer to go down the wrestling road.

RU's only HW recruit i could find
285: No. 9 Lukas Zalota ('27) Malvern (PA)

I would think they would take a HW if he wanted to come. Depends on what he is expecting.

I wouldn't waste my time with this kid. He's gonna be like every other prep school athlete and snub his nose at us.

Is Cristian Alvarez related to Sammy Alvarez?

Can anyone name anyone that wrestled and did football in college that had success in both??

Steven Neal only wrestled in college and went into NFL after.. believe Brock Lesnar only wrestled in college..

Kueter currently doing both but heard he might be moving on to football after Mocco comes in. Mullen tried both think he’s focusing wrestling now? We had Kyonte but he moved to football..

I would recruit him. Build a relationship. If he comes, great, you need talent depth. If he doesn't come, wish him well and take the high road. You never know how its going to play out. He may go somewhere and not be happy playing football or wrestling and look to come home. He and his family will remember how they were treated and it gives you a leg up over other schools at that time. Or, he chooses another school, is happy and you never hear from him again. It didn't cost you anything to try. The portal has changed recruiting on a lot of levels. You want as many positive relationships on the recruiting trail as possible because a lot of these kids will end up in the portal looking for a landing spot.

See above. St. Joe's is a catholic high school. And not all are snubbing as Rutgers has gotten it's foot in the door to Delbarton and Bishop McCourt Catholic powerhouses as of late, with a good handful of other Catholic school wrestlers already on the roster. Prep schools? Zalota is a commit from a true prep school by the way and sits atop his weight class for his year.

Speaking of heavyweights, I don't hear anything about Alex Bajoras anymore. Did he enlist in a prep school for a year after graduating high school? I think I remember him being ranked last year.

Long time ago, but Lee Getz was a top OL for Rutgers as well as our heavyweight wrestler. Back in the 80's. But that is rare in deed.
