I confess I'm not 100% sure where all China's energy resources come from, but I know it hurts to lose both Venezuela and Iran. And China is not a terribly stable country eonomically and demographically to begin with. This has to hurt them terribly.

Also, how much more does this further isolate Russia?

This does nothing but help Russia. More customers for a worse product at a now higher price.
Ukrainian efforts have been effective against Russia.

F@#$ Russia!!

Russia lost an important ally in Iran. And I'm not sure Russia has enough supply for Chinese demand.

And yeah, I'm with you on the Russian sentiment.

There are alot of people losing focus on the closest alligator to the boat. An influx of income could energize the bear to go romping through Europe. That's not what we want....... That’s the gateway to the Western World. Just a lack of focus on that front in general.

I wasn't talking about the strikes. Those seem well executed. I'm talking about what happens in a month or a year now that the head has been cut off the snake. We've potentially destabilized the region so what is the plan to restabilize it. Plunging 80 million Iranians into a civil war isn't liberating them. The vast, vast majority of Iranians are not part of the Death to America crowd but they have little means to do much about the ruling minority that is. Like I said before, our decades of sanctions have only solidified power for the IRGC.

Without a way to transition power this could all easily go sideways and leak all sorts of weapons to extremist groups around the region and world. Iran does not have the capability for a true nuke but they can make dirty bombs and wreak plenty havoc. Are we sure we have accounted for all their enriched uranium? We are putting a ton of faith in Israeli intelligence IMO.

That's what I meant by haphazard. Will see how it plays out.
The fact we and the Israelis are targeting known opposition leaders just shows we aren’t interested in a stable Iran. We’d rather have a failed state we can bomb every 6 months

they were also celebrating in Iran until they went shelter in place...no idea how you don't realize this
I don’t doubt there is a large portion of the population that wants the regime gone. I just don’t think regime change is going to happen. That’s my point

but you refuse to acknowledge that majority of the population are fans of the United States...and it is obvious why...no need to go political. It is a fact. Vast majority are fans of the United States and fans of what is happening and their leadership being taken out by the United States. It's OK to admit that they like us

I don’t think there is actual polling or source data to show a *majority* are fans of the United States. I don’t care one way or the other. I think it’s an illegal war that will only make the region less stable and safe. It will only lead to innocents killed

it’s not an illegal war…that’s simply not accurate. It’s military action. No different than anything Obama and Biden did. Both had military actions without congressional approval. I currently just heard. As I typed this, Democrat John Fetterman say the same thing and speak on that region being more safe. And then talking about Americans protesting and mentioned some at Columbia University stating Death to America while Iranians celebrate. It’s jnreal

As he just stated on TV “America over Party”

If only more people had that attitude.

Reza Pahlavi just said this is decapitation of this regime. Said they have a plan to take down this current regime and it would bring a lot of money to the US b/c it would open business transactions between the two countries.

He feels they can take their country back...that would be huge. He expects the transitional leadership to take a couple years with the next 100 days being the most critical to merge the citizen leadership and military and governmental leadership but would be a lot longer to get an electoral process back in place.

Iranians are very thankful for the United States support...

It’s absolutely an illegal war. Please what did Biden do that is similar. Fetterman is a dipshit, can’t wait till he’s gone. This is also a pointless war. We don’t have a plan beyond bombing stuff for content. While this is going on our alcoholic philandering SecDef is trying (and failing) to kick girls and trans kids out of the org formerly known as the Boy Scouts and shutting down soldiers studying at our best universities. Glad he has his priorities straight

Yes, just keep bombing, the regime leaders and IRGC will just give up and hand the reins over to the Shah’s son

My daughter's best friend (they're both 23 yo) is from Romania. They came to the US, and I quote her, "to have a shot at a better life". They moved to Virginia when she was 3 or 4 years old.

Her dad, and I'm not joking here, waves a hand held American flag in their living room when the news comes on discussing military action. They couldn't be happier to be Americans

staying away from political...but Yemen happened with no congressional approval and it was NOT illegal...There were a couple under Obama as well that were NOT illegal. Syria comes to mind.

People need to learn what falls under illegal war and what needs congressional approval. The POTUS has the authority to authorize strategic military actions. How is this so hard for people to understand?

Another data point.

Have to be careful when extracting meaning from charts like these... especially ones attempting to show a trend over the course of (checks notes) 1 year...and when this data comes from an otherwise largely closed society. Be that as it may, what does this chart actually say? That gas and coal barely dipped while wind and solar exploded? That's hardly made a difference in the overall ratio of energy production by source. Also, as China's economy recovers, it energy demands will continue to grow substantially. Maybe renewables helps them fill that void. I don't know.

We can debate China's economic situation somewhere else. I only brought them into this discussion when I surmised that the Venezuelan and Iranian operations could be more about China and Russia than Venezuela and Iran. It was just the thought, and not one I am trying to assert is true.

Not sure why you keep going back to the Shah. Ideally, the people of Iran will decide who leads them. History indicates it may well be just another tyrant, but I hope not.

I think their goal is to go back to a vote and having a Crown Prince but only time will tell and it will be at least a year or two before any of that can happen. Definitely going to be an interesting story to follow

I agree with you overall, just not sure there's necessarily a lack of focus on Russia. Russia's problems go far deeper than economics. Demographically, they're a country that's already dead. All that's left is the dying. Tragically, they are obliging.

Trump apparently wants a ceasefire, so much for actual regime change

Say way? The former regime all dead. It's been changed....just not sure into what yet.
They didn’t kill everyone. Ali Larijanj, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, is still alive. Other guys like him too presumably. They killed the Ayatollah because he wanted to be killed and made a martyr. The IRGC is still intact. Turning Iran into any form of democratic government would involve boots on the ground

So you agree with calling people Nazis that have NOT imported people into extermination camps?
I agree with calling them fascists yes. They’re setting up a concentration camp network and that obviously isn’t the only hallmark of fascism. I believe if you’re a Trump supporter on the US today that you would have supported the Nazis if you lived in 1930s Germany
