It will all come down to recruiting. He's going to have to get Big Ten level talent in spots 1-8 in the lineup and a couple standouts that are 85% Stirtz level.

I expect a dip next season, and not making the tourney, but year 3 needs to be at least as good as this year or the program might be in trouble.

His style of play lends itself to being able to compete when you have less talent but it can't be a huge talent discrepancy
I agree with your thoughts

Can you say you are excited for next season? Iowa had 3 BAD losses this season and that’s with Stirtz. Who is taking over for him next season? This offense even with him is slow.
Well no one knows what the roster will be come next year with portal age of college athletics.

seriously what were your expectations for this year let alone the next few? I can look at our last 3 coaches in year 1 and point out just as many bad losses in their first years where Iowa didn’t even come close to sniffing the tourney.

Something to ponder....Michigan is one of the best Big Ten teams in the last decade and came within an eyelash of losing at Penn State. I don't know how its going to go but you are probably overreacting to today's game
True. But PSU managed to lose that game and 14 others. There simply is no excuse for Iowa losing to PSU. None. Add it to the Maryland loss and, wow, I don't get it. Iowa played extremely poorly, but still had a 5-point lead late and choked in front of a handful of fans. You simply cannot lose @ Maryland or @ PSU. If Iowa were pulling a Ronnie Harmon today, they couldn't have done it better. There's losing, and then there's today. Pitiful.

I think you can't do anything but post a ? as to the future direction of this team. I still like Ben but his coaching at this level does get head scratching at times where on other occasions he seems great. He needs more time here before getting overly optimistic or pessimistic. In my older years I take a more positive outlook on things. I also realize Ben may prove a better lower level coach than big boy ball in the Big Ten. He still has many good qualities no matter where things go.

It was an awful loss but to say coach will be gone after 3 years (see Lickliter) is just a dumb take off one loss.

You literally have a coach take over a program with one player from year before.
Agreed,OP is way over reacting. Fran **** the bed not making the NCAA and never getting past 1st weekend. Ben will get in his first year with a Drake team. When he as a BIG roster..look out.

So this is one perspective. Maybe there's some truth to it, but another thought would be that this team isn't all that great, and mediocre teams don't often win on the road. As much as we wish it weren't so, they simply aren't that much better than the Marylands and Penn States of the world. This is an offensively challenged, one trick pony kind of team. If Stirtz has an off night they're probably going to lose regardless of who they're playing, especially on the road.

I don't think it'll get that bad. Even if it does, an AD usually won't admit they're wrong that quickly.

Ben's oldest son is a redshirt freshmen point guard next year, there's going to be lots of freaked out Iowa fans come nixed fall.
And how does that work out?Is he the next Little Lick, (Bens not going to play him if he's that bad) or is he Sam Hoiberg level? If the latter he can play back up minutes.....

If only Beth had landed the big fish in DeVries instead.

He's having such a great first season at Indiana, with his son, that Indiana might not even be rewarded with an invite to the Dance, let alone seeded higher than Iowa.

Yeah, winning 10 [conf.] & 20 [overall] in the B1G and going to the NCAAT in the Coach's first season - with an MVC-level team - sure completely sucks.

Beth should be fired, too, since this was her hire.

Give Ben three years to produce something significantly better than a 10-10 conference finish.
