Is it just me or did Pope seem alot more mentally tough last year? I don't necessarily like the "only positivity" aspect, but I feel like he never broke like he has multiple times last year. I remember watching all the press conferences and even when they lost he didn't seem pouty or depressed. He answered almost every question perfectly last year. I remember him not making any excuses after the Texas loss when someone asked him how injuries were affecting the team and he wouldn't give that question the time of day. Said they should be able to win with the players they had. Just doesn't seem like the same guy. Maybe I just had blue shaded sunglasses last year I don't know.

Admittedly, I am really hard on him. I think last year was a honeymoon. He had a few big wins early that took a lot of pressure off of him. This year started tough (exhibition loss, getting killed by Gonzaga, UL loss). Some booing. Now he hears the noise and the pressure is intense.

Just recently got the ol lady into the Cats the last few years. She was a Dukie before. Not hardcore or anything… her first experience and my kids was getting run off the court by Gonzaga and 20,000 booing Pope before halftime. Man idk how to come back from that one.

That's fair. It's easier to stand tall through the losses last year when you know most fans will give you a pass. I wonder how much the $22 million number hurt him this year. Had that not leaked I don't think we would be as furious. It doesn't inherently change anything, but knowing that number and how we missed on Caleb Wilson, Nate Ament, Donovan Dent, Yaxel, etc. only pisses us off even more knowing we could have just paid two of those guys instead of Lowe and Aberdeen, or Mo and Jelavic or BG.

If Pope can’t handle the stresses of the job, he shouldn’t be coaching the Kentucky basketball program. This is probably the most stressful college basketball jobs in the country.

I agree, and I do not believe he can handle the stress long term. His emotional maturity is far too low for this. I honestly believe he could have a world class meltdown (in public) that would lead to his resignation. When he is in a really tough spot, he can’t deal with it.

He trys to be a happy go lucky guy. We need a machine that is focused on one thing UK basketball and everything that needs to happen to promote it.

He really can't evidenced by several of his press conferences.

You seem obsessed with Cal. You might want to turn your attention toward the disaster that is Mark Pope.
Cal was the subject of our back and forth comments. But yes let me post an always enlightening comment that is immediately inserted into any basketball conversation on this board. No matter the original topic. Here ya go. POPE SUCKS! HES A DISASTER! WORST TEAM IN ALL MY X # OF YEARS WATCHING UK!

I love all of these posters acting as if Stokes is the second coming and the key to our success and the reality is none of you have any idea how good he is, most have probably never even seen a highlight and many are still living in the one and done Calipari era or else, it is what it is.
I’ve never been super impressed with the guy. It must be a WEAK class is all I gotta say. He’s good, for sure. Great?! Meh. I don’t think so. There’s at least 20 better freshmen playing in college right now.

Stokes has to love what he saw today.
Nah, he probably didn’t even pay attention. Beating Vandy at Rupp Arena I doubt he’s thinking anything at all actually. Stokes probably wouldn’t care if we beat the Lakers, he’s see a lot of bad too. Guy is going off of money and coaching ability, connections, agents, best path. Only way Pope could get him given that is to flat out pay a ton of cash.

I don’t see Stokes coming here. He doesn’t wanna come to UK, based on what I’ve read. Dude has some major baggage IMO. High probability he’s a locker room cancer. JMO.

We should all be concerned he does not want Ky even if Kansas pays him less. But we should also be curious why that is. In my business if a customer doesn't do business with me because to perfers to do business with one of my competitors and my deal is better I have to find out why to get better.
This response was absolutely brilliant and I ask you to expand on this please
