Way better than chats from the past few years. The overwhelming consensus was that the team looks solid and the coaches are teaching them how to play Baseball correctly. That's pretty high praise for this super critical group.

And y'all know me and I have nothing to criticize.

I noticed at the end of the game, yesterday. Oak had the team in a circle. You could tell by the body language he was teaching them about winning baseball. The players were somber and the coach was eliciting head shakes that said, “yes, coach, we see what you are saying”. I am sure the message was, good win, but we have work to do as a team to get better. He teaches. I like this man.

I'm as cynical as would be expected of a 50 something curmudgeon and a long time sixpacker.

That said, I'm seeing nothing that makes me think this isn't the exact guy we have needed running this program for quite a while. I'll stand by what I said when we hired him. He's going to bring us more than one natty before he's done here. He's the coach we deserve. Finally.

My wife made a great point at the game last Friday. About the 5th inning she turned to me and said, “it is nice to have a coach standing and coaching, and not sitting on a bucket.” She said Lemonis gave her lazy vibes, but BOC is always working.
She also called Lemonis being fired the day after the national championship. Said, it wouldn’t work. Maybe I should listen to her more. Ha

Not to rehash our gripes about Lemonis, but one of the main ones for me was that once he made a decision about the roster, he was going to stick with it come hell or high water. He was completely inflexible, and he allowed bad decisions to fester until the point that they were hurting the team during games and throughout the season.

I'm sure that O'Conner isn't perfect, but every time that I start to see something on gameday that doesn't feel right, it's like he's 6 steps ahead and already making an adjustment. Not to soon, not too late... it's at just the right time.

We'll see what happens from here, but I think we hit an absolute grand slam with this guy

You should invite her to the pack…

Lazy Vibes & Always Working would be great usernames here…

Maybe I should listen to her more. Ha

Well, maybe you shouldn’t invite her to the pack… 😂

We hit 2 homers yesterday on first pitches (0-0 counts). Frei's was after a pitching change, and Teels was first pitch of the B8th inning. I just don't recall us ever doing things like that before.

That's one of those things that can make you look really good or really bad. Statistically your average is higher if you're hitting in 0 strike counts than 1 strike counts, or 1 strike counts over 2 strike counts. So jumping on the first good pitch will (again, statistically) lead to a higher BA. But when the balls aren't finding grass and you're making quick outs, now you've got the opposing pitcher sitting on 72 pitches in the 7th inning... gotta find that balance of when to jump on the early pitch, and when to work the pitcher. Maybe this is the early returns showing that Oak is teaching the guys when to do which.

Frei's first pitch homer off the reliever reminded me of a football game, when a team gets an interception, then immediately takes a deep shot at a TD. Fun to see...

And no one is pounding their chest after they looked at two strikes go right down the center of the plate because they were "working the GD count".

Never went to the plate worrying about making an out. Hit good pitches when you get them.

There were times at end of games were you were down by multiple runs you would go into take a strike mode as a team.

What are her thoughts on our other coaches? Would she be interested in a job as an AD?

She is honestly crazy good at calling things off vibes. That makes me feel good about myself. She thought Lebby was a joke (she said a good coach wouldn’t need the big introduction prep rally to get you excited.) She has never been a Jans fan.

Bruce any way you would share what other former Dawgs are in that chat? Cut my Bulldog Baseball teeth watching you and your teammates in the Older Dude. A side note to my user name…..first time I recall hearing Pink Floyd’s Money was when yall were warming up between innings. My dad grabbed me both the 45 and my copy of Dark side soon after. Good times.

Glad to see us not trying to take pitches the first 6 innings to wear the starter out.

We've made some base running mistakes and fielding is a little sloppy at times.

But it's nice to not have a known dud in the lineup. Or two or three. REALLY NICE.

Lemonis sucked and should have been fired in March 2023. Thankfully, keeping his lazyass as long as we did worked in our favor.
Whi would have though being backwards small minded lazy Mississippi State would actually work in our favor for a change.

Not only do we not have duds in the lineup, we pull guys off the bench and they launch balls into the bleachers.

To be fair to Lebby, I think the whole “pep rally” introduction thing was all Selmon. Did she miss the introduction that Oak got? They made a bigger production out of that than a presidential inauguration.

Attention to detail is what I see out of BOC. He also seems to have a great way of getting the team to embrace challenges or expectations. Today will be very interesting.

Also, don't sleep on Parker. This guy will be a great head coach one day especially if he sticks with BOC for a few years.

I'd love to get 5 minutes completely unrestrained from Parker on Oak vs Lem.
