The Rutgers Issues board was nuked and none of the posts were transferred here, so starting a new thread on the facilities construction projects.

I work for the department that is in charge of the master plan and it's definitely happening. The original plan was called Rutgers 2030 and with COVID that is probably more like 2040 at this point, but major aspects of the plan have already been built and will continue to be built. I can see the plan be revised so not everything in the original plan will be built, such as the boardwalk planned for the along the Raritan.
Any updates on when Brower will be demoed and construction will start on the new CA quad? Demo started on records Hall in June 2022 and Brower in June 2023. Rumors back then were that Brower wouldn't be demoed for another 2+ years due to some utilities work, and a new dining hall wouldn't be ready until 2029 at the earliest. Will anything else be built with the new dining hall, like a new student center, dorm or academic building? Will Tate come out with 2040 master plans this year or in 2027? Thanks.

Hope it’s not the same construction team working on the 295-42-55 project

25 plus years for 3-4 overpasses
Really. Will that thing ever end? I go through there once a year just to see what's changed and it doesn't look like much. Now that's probably an exaggeration, but not by a lot.

They had the plans for the project 2030 in the paper.
New transit hub where the ledge is, and a hotel/conference center at the end of college Ave (by the park were the old aluminum club is).
I don’t know if they even considered the billion dollar Rutgers Cancer Institute on Somerset St. or the Helix (H1) collaboration on French St. as part of the project 2030? Rutgers is really booming though!

College ave needs its facelift ASAP!
the green bike lane with cones looks awful.

brower being closed for several years is totally unacceptable . and it’s an eyesore right now.

So much opportunity but instead we have a multi year eyesore in the heart of our flagship campus. Not okay that there isn’t even a very near end in sight for a massive upgrade

It's really sad that it's taken this long to demo Brower and start construction on a new dining hall and the quad.

Being in north Jersey I know nothing about this, so googled it and found a number of articles. Linking this one:

Absolutely criminal that multiple classes of students on College Ave will not have a dining hall as a central point of socialization.
Didn’t they convert The Ledge into a temporary dining hall when Brower was closed? I mean the kids do have a place to go and eat and socialize.
having said that, itbwould
Be nice to see some more rapid progress on the new quad project.

They serve food there, but it's grab and go without the central area to sit down and eat.

That's nothing. Have you been through Hillsborough and the Route 206 nonsense thats been going on for like 40 years. I moved here 28 years ago and it had already been talked about for 10 years before then.

So they just snap their fingers and presto it's done in a day?

I sense he is going to try to get a grocery store included. Target or something like that.

My older kid is a Junior at RU and during admitted students day, April 2023, we ate at Brower and the food was terrible. A month later it was closed. My younger kid is a Freshman living on College Ave and she said the Atrium food is ok. But she goes to Livi dining hall to sit down and eat. Problem is all of her classes are on College Ave so she’s rarely on Livingston.
The students want a Wawa added to the new building.

Don't all, or almost all, freshmen live on Livingston now?

it seems very likely that neither of your kids will ever see a proper dining hall on college ave. And instead are looking at a construction site for 6+ years.

True. There is no chance it will be completed in the next 3 years. Both will live off campus with a kitchen next year so it’s not a big deal. Adding a Target or similar store will be good for future students.

A small scale Target would be a great addition to campus.

I’m not a huge Target fan (wife loves it) but there’s a small scale one a mile from our house and it’s a nice concept..I find myself going there pretty frequently now. They have 4-5 of them in Center City Philly as well.

Target is normally a huge store, can't see how they'd fit that in the footprint of the rebuild.

Exactly ! That article itself is 14 years old - OMG !!
And honestly, there still isn't any hope for completion. The project is 3 parts:

Part 1: The actual bypass (shortened, but completed)
Part 2: Widening from the bypass to the CSX train bridge near Camplain Road (delayed, but ongoing)
Part 3: Replacement of the CSX train bridge

Part 3 is the MOST important part of the project and is the biggest pinch-point on 206 in Hillsborough. This work is NOT even funding yet. LOL! The road widening work is completely pointless until the train bridge is replaced.

Yup. Every time I've passed that bridge all of thought is how useless the project is until that is changed. And that is NOT a minor change whatsoever.

F'ing A. That work should have never been started without funding for the bridge replacement in place. And yes, that replacement is going to be a nightmare. Very difficult work while keeping the existing track operational.

Are you guys from the area ? On a related note - did you know that there is a proposal on the table to replace the Exxon station at the corner close to Old Man Rafferty's with a Chik Fil A ?

Target makes sense as a retail anchor to the Brower area redevelopment. Target announced this week it is on a store opening binge. Small format Targets have opened next to several B1G campuses. Build apartments above the store.

Probably need to bring in Devco to get it build. The Rutgers 2030 Master Plan was published in 2015 and we are running out of time.

I wrote a paper on this part of campus for a business writing class. That would have been circa 1998. The Rutgers guy I interviewed then, Frank Wong, is still running the planning and development department. Tate should retire this guy asap.

I'm in Belle Mead, close to the Hills border. Yes, I know about that plan. At first, it sounds crazy to put a Chik Fil A at that intersection. However, that company is very good/innovative with managing traffic and designing drive-thru lanes that can queue a ton of vehicles.

Regardless, would love a CFA in the area! :)
