Can we fire all 3 men's major sports coaches in one year?

Something has to give. Maybe we can fire PM and LP, but what if the football team is a disaster this fall. Do we keep Beamer a few more year?

  1. fire LP in March and keep PM another year and wait and see how the football team does?
  2. keep LP and PM and wait and see how the football team does?
  3. keep LP and fire PM?
  4. fire both LP and PM to keep some powder dry?

WE should operate the Men's Basketball team by player committee. Note sure what value add having that coach there is serving.
Can't even say the name- He Doesn't seem to have a take on how to get talent there at all.

Man, let’s hope not. 2 absolutely should be gone. Paris and Mainieri. Let’s hope we have a good enough season with Beamer that we have hope moving forward.

I think the blowback that would happen if Carolina fired all 3 would be gigantic.Regardless of whether the money was private and no public funds would be used,it would be a terrible PR move.Even if a donor or group of donors paid the contract payouts it would be a legitimate question whether this was wise use of resources. Many would say if people had that much money it would better be used on the academic side.

At least we'd dominate one news cycle.

My thinking is that if they all suck you keep LP and PM and make a change in football. Keep your powder dry until the fall for that possibility.

Firing all 3 would cost up to 40M. I’d fire Lamont and Mainieri because I’m not going to keep two proven losers because I have faith as an AD that I did enough to fix the problems with football coaching-wise.

As a whole, we have the worst men's athletic department in the SEC.

The man responsible is still making $1,000,000.00 a year.

Is there another SEC school that would do the same?

JC Shurburt is reporting that it is likely (not certain) that Paris will be back next year with an improved NIL situation.

Yeah that’s been reported by ESPN guys too and Trilly Donovan for weeks. So nothing groundbreaking. Just reinforces my thoughts that we’ve mismanaged money during Tanner’s tenure.

This brings up that other discussion. Which team is losing NIL funds for this, and is the preferable?

I don’t know but Matt Anderson is reporting that to put together a competitive roster in basketball, his sources are saying we would need $11.5M.

by comparison, this years roster according to his sources was 5.5-6M and he had more available to use.

Not sure that's fair for P.M. He's been here less than 1.5 years and we are calling him a proven loser?

And you guys are good with this I assume.

Where does it go from there. And how if we don’t ‘win’ to suit the masses. Just fire a coach and bring in another. Second verse, same as the first.

It’s both absurd and disgusting.

This is just one reason why we should’ve fired Mainieri last season. It was our worst season in many years with an old man never having been in the NIL era…not a longterm fix. It was understandable.

We kept him, and now we’re in this mess.

yeah, proven at this point. His recruiting is atrocious and shows no signs of life for the program. He has been accused of treating players awfully after last season. He’s a loser.

JD is between a rock and a hard place - which RT left him. I think he can fix it, but it is going to take some time. Hopefully, he will stick around and do the job.

This just brings up a debate thats been had a few times here and there.

If we have to add 5 million in NIL to the basketball team, is it worth it? Its coming out of someone else's pocket. So who is losing the 5 million? What sort of OL could that 5 million buy, etc.

The easier fix is basketball since the roster is smaller and you really only need an 8-9 man rotation.

My opinion, based on advanced stats and what coaches and knowledgeable people have told me, a winning basketball team needs to look like

2 star players
3 additional solid starters
1 solid scorer off the bench
2-3 additional solid rotational guys

based on the numbers I’ve seen reported, that roster would amount to 11.5 million

2.5M per star player
1 M for quality starters
1M for 6th man
500k per rotational player

9 players = 9.5M

We will have to overpay for quality players.

the remaining roster is made up of younger players NIL is around 100k-400k for them

I agree. On The Big Spur today there is an article about how historically bad Paris has been here. Donati must have his hands tied to not fire him.

Right, which confirms he is not a proven loser.
It would be accurate to say he’s been a proven loser at Carolina. So far.

But your point is often overlooked (by me) . . . it’s only been one full season of failure and another possibly on the way.

I just don’t see the evidence of good recruiting and coaching, and many seem to think the same. Like Paris, I’d like to see him succeed but if this season plays out as it appears, my hope is he will retire.

Well it doesn’t help things when you have an article that portrays him as inept, toxic, a liar, and someone that mismanaged his team….

I’ve read numerous posts from LSU fans on him. . . they were so happy when he left and can’t seem to understand why a program like USC hired him. The overwhelming majority thought he was too old or too inept.

Agree with all of that.

I was taking a step further back though. The thought being, should we "give up" on other sports and focus all that NIL on just football.

If we go by revenue generating sports, football and MBB should be invested in.

I dont think there's a wrong answer, but there are differing opinions on it.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head! It’s a matter of money and donors. Donors rule the roost (terrible pun) and always have. AD’s have to navigate, coddle, and protect the money flow.

Sorry chief; you guys are kind of cookie cutter-ish; blend into each other. I was addressing the board, hence the plurality of ‘guys’. I didn’t mean to single you out although that is the way it looks; apologies.

So I take it you’re not in favor of annual hired guns, prostituted out to the highest bidder in the name of wins?

Yeah, I think the easier fix is basketball. Football I don’t know as much about in comparison. However, it is the cash down that supports all other sports so that would probably be the priority like you’re saying.

No NIL and transfer portal have ruined college athletics. Until there are some regulations in place, it’s only going to get worse.

Seems like the money has dried up. I can’t remember where I posted earlier but think about the last 10 years here:

Fired Muschamp
Fired Martin
Fired Kingston
Major renovations
Inexplicable contracts given to Beamer, Paris, and Maineiri
COVID wrecked athletics programs which could have set us back further than anticipated.
we are paying our women’s basketball coach as much as our men’s, and while I love Dawn and the program wins, it’s almost reckless to pay that much for a sport that doesn’t generate revenue while the ones that two are horrible. (I’m not advocating for firing Dawn)

I'm a bit confused by this. I thought NIL came from private money and groups like The Garnet Trust and the school didn't have control over it. Was that never true or has it changed?
