Amen. Crazy that this can’t just be viewed through a hockey/sports moment lens. For some, it has to be politicized.
My point about the stupidity of Trump and his "joke" about now having to invite the women's team- wasn't political. Would have been just as stupid and childish if Joe Biden said the same thing.

The man just shouldn't even be joking like that. Sorry if that triggers anyone. But it was not political.

I am super excite for both of the USA teams as well as any other medal winners at the games.

As a woman, I was triggered. The US Women’s team should have gotten the first phone call if any team was going to be invited.
IMO, kinda crazy to be triggered over a joke. Do as I do, when certain people show their face on TV OR their voice bothers you, use the mute button. It works wonders for my mind. BTW, they will be going as they should at some point in the coming months. From what I understand, USA hockey wants them there. Not many teams show up right after a championship. I watched every game of both teams. Retirement allows those joys. I enjoyed both teams beating Americas hat equally! U.S.A., U.S.A. God Bless The U.S.A.!

It was a distasteful joke. Once again showing the lack of respect for women. If your daughter or granddaughter were on the team, would you have the same reaction?
Just as an FYI, the women have outmedaled the men overall in three consecutive Winter Olympics and four consecutive Summer Olympics.

Thank you for your opinion. If it was my daughter or granddaughter, I would shrug it off. My wife found it funny as did her co-workers. I guess that you don't watch comedy such as George Carlin all the way to Jeff Dunham. I am aware of the success of women's teams in recent Olympics and am happy for them because they are Americans. I am also aware that Princeton's women's hockey team is ranked #8 in the country and they start their conference playoffs at home this Friday at 3:00. I am also aware that their team is better than the men's team and one of their best players ever was #10 on the canadian team, Sarah Fillier. My family and I have been to MULTIPLE women's sporting events at R.U. and Princeton. You passing on your FYI is a joke being that I am aware of things like this. I am also aware of how the R.U. women's basketball team has TANKED in recent years. Yes, I follow men's and WOMENS sports at EVERY level. Nice try bro. It was a joke. Move on.

Not really relevant in a conversation about the Olympics, though, huh?
No I think it is. People were discussing the women’s hockey team. Yeah it’s great they won gold and I was rooting for them 100%. It’s just not as popular as men’s hockey

The poster you’re responding to clearly stated earlier in the thread that she is a woman. If you’re trying to make a point about how pro-women’s sports you are, maybe don’t call a woman “bro.”

That's different than saying no one cares about women's sports, which just isn't true as it relates to the Olympics. Some women's events are more popular than men's.

As for hockey, I believe both champ games set ratings records. To be faaiiir, men's much higher total.

One of the things that's great about the Games is having both male and female superstars battle in huge events. I thought this year had more star power on the female side (not hockey, but skiing, snowboarding, skating, etc) than male and medal tally bore that out.

I seriously don't understand how this shouldnt bother everyone. Politics or not - Women's team should have been the first call.

But no one got a "phone call". It was Kash Patel that called Trump.

Had Patel been in the locker room after the women's game - I'm sure Trump WOULD have talked to them first.

Most people don't care about women's sports and that's a fact. Look at the attendance of the WNBA. Besides Caitlan Clark the games are unwatchable.

I had zero interest in women's hockey - but I also had little interest in men's (I watched the highlights of OT though). When I was a kid they had roller derby on TV and they featured constant fighting. Hockey was always having fights too so I grew-up with hockey and roller derby in the same bin as a sports fan. The 1980 hockey team was epic but US amateurs vs USSR in 1980 is pretty far above US vs Canada pros.

But I do like a lot of women's sports like gymnastics and figure skating (the two most popular Olympic sports for tv viewing). I also like women's track and to a lesser extent swimming (fun but too many juicers these days). Men excel at gross motor skills and women at fine motor skills (they are also more "bendy"). Artistic women's sports are in a class all their own. The US women's track teams have great people on them (NJ's Sydney McLaughlin, Gabby Richards, Tara Davis-Woodhall are amazing peeps who should be more known).
