working in the SEC office. Every time we have been tied in records, they always list Ole Miss ahead of us. It should be alphabetical order. I've seen this done several times in other sports with them over the last several years. And we are higher ranked nationally.

I've had this discussion for years...MSU should have POURED money into it's journalism school 30 years ago.

Yep, and I know they had 2-3 employed at Bristol, CT. One of them a higher up executive and one was a manager in the programming dept. That's been a few years ago, and not sure if they are still there, but somehow, they keep getting "The Season-Ole Miss" this or that broadcasted over pretty much everybody in the SEC. I'm sick of seeing that show listed all the time on ESPN.

Man y'all worry about the most petty things when it comes to the University of Northern MS, life's too short to worry about anything concerning Yoknapatawpha County. Geez live a little instead of getting the red as-s about whose name is first on a list.

Two words......"Perception & Marketing". Means a lot over time when it comes to recruiting.

Nobody outside MS knows the difference in the two anyway, don't sweat it...........................
I have been congratulated half a dozen times for "our playoff run" this year from vendors around the US.

They all know I am a Mississippi State fan.

You are absolutely kidding yourself if you believe that. I can tell you two recent incidents. My son visited the Arkansas in November. I met several other families that were visiting UoA and Ole Miss and stated their kids weren't interested in State (Tx, MO and KS. Also I work for an engineering organization. My chief of engineering from St. Louis daughter is interested in OM and not state. Our markerting just plain sucks. It is sad to see as a State alumni but it is reality.

Sounds like the "chief of engineering" (of all people) needs to sit down and discuss with his daughter the actual reality of the differences in the the two engineering schools instead of letting her be influenced by the color of the brochures put out by the marketing departments.

I've always been put off by it, too. I assume it's because "Mississippi" is ahead of "Mississippi State" alphabetically. But I say if you're going to write Ole Miss, then alphabetize them by the O!

This x10.

Girls where I live have excitedly asked me what it was like to go to Ole Miss because it's a dream school of theirs due to TikTok sorority crap, and then are hilariously disappointed when I point out that OM and MSU are different.

Multiple adults asked if I was bummed after OM lost in the CFP.

Nobody gives a 17 which university is listed first in standing released the conference.

To many outside of the state/region, we are the Ole Mississippi State University Rebel DawgSharks.

SEC is using "Ole Miss" to identify them.

That's very unfortunate to hear. My guess is she's being influenced by the SEC Football Weekends and other Ole Miss et al experiences and not the quality of the engineering programs because, there, there's utterly no comparison. MSU's IDEELab alone and the incorporation of co-op and work experience make newly-minted MSU engineers immediately employable in a way even Ivy League engineers just are not. But if, by engineering, she means pre-business, then it does make sense.

The overall perception created around OM as a wholistic experience is damn impressive.

As someone living outside MS I can assure this is not true. In the conference they are esteemed much more highly than us. We are thought of as farmer Vandy. They are respected much more because of their recent success.

There name being above ours means very little.

yes we should market and focus on perception more but their name over ours means very little.

Their name over ours means very little.

That MAY be true in the last 5 year. Maybe. But most people don’t really know the difference.

Ole Miss has certainly capitalized by marketing their experience.

Instagram and TikTok is full of high school girls craving the SEC experience - they mention Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss in that order.

Now, let's go beat the brakes off the Arizona Wild Devils in baseball.

I too live outside of MS but my experience is opposite of yours. I live in Jacksonville, FL and just the other day had a guy tell me I must be pretty excited about the Trinidad news...I told him I hated it and was hoping that he would be ineligible, and he looked at me completely shocked. I then had to explain that I was Mississippi State and not OM, to which he responded with an "oh yeah, I get yall mixed up all the time" I have been asked about Michigan, Mich State, on OM a lot more than Mississippi state, and this in an strong SEC area (Fl and Ga).

Nobody wants to hear this, but the MS schools are frankly very forgettable once not in spotlight.

I worked with a very accomplished and intelligent guy years ago who graduated from Ole Miss. He was from the Midwest and admitted that it wasn't until the first week of his freshman year that he realized there were two SEC schools in Mississippi.
