Fair. I mean, if OSU can be #11 opening up with teams like Detroit Mercy, Cleveland State, and Bellarmine, #14 seems about right for a team that opened with four tough teams, including 2 on the road.

None of the teams we’ve played are pushovers. Jax is a scrappy up and coming program and they seem to pull off upsets and push top teams to the limit every year. Army is army. SBU always has talent but their challenge is that to LI kids want to leave the island but SBU is picking up the best of what’s left (which used to be Hofstra) and the talent on LI is deep. Nova will likely be in the BE race to the end. LIU (if it happens) will be our first real cupcake game, though they have some talent we should handle them relatively easily.

I haven't seen them play but it's an open year in lacrosse. Wouldn't be shocked if the eventual champion has multiple losses.

It is an open year, but why rank ND with wins against cupcakes and Georgetown (at home) ahead of Harvard who has beaten a cupcake, Colgate and Syracuse at home?

And this year there is a real chance neither makes MDW.

Agreed. Notre Dame shouldn’t be 1. Other teams are more deserving.

Quint has us at 17 and had this to say. He’s not wrong:

Rutgers

The Scarlet Knights are 3-1 after an 8-7 win over Villanova. The two teams combined for just two goals In the second half. Villanova shot 1-of-20 to end the game. RU netminder Cardin Stoller made 14 saves, while 'Nova’s Dennis Fargione had 19 stops in a losing effort. Both goalies were hot.

Rock fight games like this don’t portend well for a team’s future in the shot clock era. Teams have terminal issues and low ceilings if they can’t muster double-digit goals. It’s unlikely that a team is winning a game of magnitude in the shot clock era with seven or eight goals. Examples? Here are the winning team’s goals scored in the 2025 NCAA Tournament: 11, 14, 15, 13, 13, 15, 13, 16, 13, 22, 13, 14, 9, 19, 11, 14, 13. Teams who can’t score will perish.

We need to score more but we are averaging 10.5 goals a game without playing a true cupcake yet. He must not follow the BIG. Rock fights are very common.

Is it really Quint if he's not giving a backhanded compliment to Rutgers. It could have been the score for JHU and he'd talk about the defensive prowess and the amazing ability to keep scoring down in the shot clock era.

I'm afraid to look at this poll, ha ha. It's been a dismal year for Maryland sports...

Maryland plays a pretty good schedule, but dang, I think Notre Dame plays an even tougher one. And they scored 29 goals a couple of weeks ago. This will be a challenge for the Terrapins.

Hats off to Notre Dame for this:
Notre Dame Lax Schedule

Running up the score on a cupcake doesn't impress me, but the schedule does. And the Ivies could take a lesson from them by starting with a cupcake the first game or two and then going into the meatgrinder like this weekend with the ACC.

With regard to the Terps: I'm butchering the idiom, but it seems the product on the field is less than the sum of its parts so far. Hopefully Coach Tillman gets its fixed.

Definitely the worst year of Maryland athletics in my memory...

One thing about transfers is it’s never a guarantee you can integrate them quickly. Maryland has a great transfer class but they also recruit exceptionally well. Maryland is playing some transfers in immediate big roles. You can do all the due diligence and it’s not an indictment of anyone but sometimes it’s hard to mesh it all together. With that schedule it’s not a lot of room for feeling it out. Still wouldn’t bet that UM isn’t there at the end. Tillman has proven many x he’s the best in the game.
