Friday Championship

Very competitive region thats already had some regular season meetings. LCA split with Western. Western beat Rocktown. Rocktown beat Wilson. Wilson beat TA, Monticello. Alleghany beat Rocktown.

Western is the favorite IMO. If they play like they are capable, they are 5-10 points better than everyone else in region to me. Wilson has won 19 or 20 straight with a 40 pt scorer. They appear to be the most dangerous team playing. Rocktown and LCA are the sleepers to me.

It will definitely come down to western and Liberty Christan in my opinion it’s a different type of ball… I don’t think the valley has it to compete with Lynchburg, 434,757 or 804.

If Western's big man Camblos is back and healthy I give them the edge - not sure what his timetable is. If not, I'd give the edge to LCA in a barn burner in Crozet. I do think both East Rock and Rocktown can give Western a good fight in potential matchups. Wilson is very good but just think LCA is more battle-tested and that'll be the difference in the game.

Your Valley can't compete statement, is that just this year? Spotswood just won it all out of the Valley last year so just curious where that statement was coming from. I personally think Lynchburg hoops is the weakest of the mid sized cities in the state that aren't in the 3 major metro areas (Roanoke, Cville, Hburg, Winchester, Danville, NRV). Glass is legit this year, best group since their state runner up team that should have cut the nets down. LCA has a real good team, that could certainly win this region, but they've been inconsistent. Split with Western but lost to Rustburg?? North Cross beat them by 40, same North Cross that beat Alleghany the day before by 4 and just lost to a down William Fleming team. LCA is def battle tested though, tough non district schedule against variety of styles. Wilson has a legit scorer and a big to matchup with LCA's length. I think Wilson can play at any tempo which should help them matchup with anyone. Our region is certainly the most interesting among C3. Looking forward to seeing it shake out. GO RAPTORS!!!

This is how I expect it to go. I think your fina 4 are the top 4 teams in the region. Any given night, they could all beat each other. Western has the best coach, most size and home court advantage. Wilson may have the best scorer. Styles, which teams make shots and coaching adjustments will decide it.

They have two other players that have both scored 30 multiple times this year. 3 different players that can get 30 makes things
Again im sorry to say but hand the trophy to western or lca. And wilson hasn’t played anyone that’s why they only lose 2 games. Hardest team they played was TA Or Rocktown😂😂😂they wouldn’t last against new Kent, Petersburg, lake taylor. They will be embarrassed imo.

Aren't we talking region c or old region 3? We weren't talking about all of 3A. That's a pipe dream to think anyone not named petersburg wins it. They are going to have to 💩 the bed bad to not win it. If it's not them it will be lake taylor.

STAUNTON – The Staunton Storm scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to take a 10-point lead and then iced the game at the free throw line in the closing two minutes for a 61-51 victory Friday over the Spotswood Trailblazers.
“At times this season we would give teams three or four shots at it, and you can’t beat anybody if you let them shoot until they score,” said Staunton head coach Kevin Madden. “Tonight, we game them one shot and we didn’t allow them to get in the lane.”
Both teams came out of the gate firing on all cylinders. Spotswood hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter, but Staunton had the answer as freshman point guard Legend Reed went 3-for-3 from long range and scored 11 points, leading the Storm to a 19-17 lead.
The game then settled into a defensive struggle.
Spotswood made 4-for-6 free throws to take its biggest lead of the game late in the second quarter but two foul shots by Reed and a bucket by Anthony Renne pulled the Storm to within a point, 30-29, at the half.
Renne, Staunton’s long-range sniper, made just one 3-pointer on the night, but it was a big one. His 3-ball with 1:15 left in the third quarter gave Staunton a 40-37 lead, a bucket that turned out to be the final points of the period.
Staunton scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to pad the lead. Reed scored four points and Kijani Hines added three, extending the margin to 47-40.
With 2:49 remaining, Staunton led by eight, 49-41. That’s when Spotswood head coach Chad Edwards decided to play the foul game and send the Storm to the foul line - a sound strategy considering great foul shooting and Staunton Storm have rarely been used in the same sentence this season.
In the final regular season game, a 74-72 overtime loss to Fort Defiance, Staunton shot 11-of-28 from the foul line.
Heading into the final 2:49 of Friday’s contest, the Storm was an even 50 percent at 10-for-20.
Down the stretch, when making free throws was going to be paramount in holding the lead, the Storm was nearly perfect.
Emari Wilson was the clear target of Spotswood’s strategy. In the first half, Wilson was 2-for-6 at the foul line. Down the stretch he was a perfect 7-for-7. Reed was 2-for-2 and Staunton finished 10-for-11 down the stretch to ice the contest.
“Very important to make free throws. Whether it’s first half or second half, if you make them, you’ll have a chance to win. I thought the guys did an excellent job,” Madden said.
Reed was spectacular, leading the Storm with 26 points. Wilson scored 11, nine in the final 2:49 of the game.
“Legend was huge,” added Madden. “He kept us in the game. First quarter, he hit a couple threes when they backed off. Then when they played him - go by them and make layups.”
Landon Davis scored Spotswood’s first 11 points of the game and finished the night with 23 points.
Staunton will meet a familiar foe in the quarterfinals when they make the short trip to Fishersville to play Shenandoah District champion Wilson for the third time this season. Wilson won the first meeting of the season on its home court, 67-58, a game the Hornets led by double figures most of the way. In a thriller late in the season at Paul Hatcher Gym, Wilson outscored the Storm 93-83.

VHSL Region 3C Boys Basketball First-round: FINAL - Rocktown 60, Heritage 43.

The Raptors win their first ever regional playoff game and advance to Monday’s regional second-round against Alleghany.

Ayden Gordon led all scorers with 19 for the Raptors while teammate DJ Robbins had 18.

Pioneers were led by Jeremiah Scott’s 12. RHS scored 50 of their 60pts in the paint and forced 19 turnovers

(Thanks Adam Zebrowski)

Got 4 unique games tonight. I watched some of all of them. Have to start with the barnburner in Bridgewater. TA blows 7 pt lead with under 2 minutes left. Bryant from LCA tips back his own missed attempt at the buzzer. TA coach will lose sleep over this one for a while, they had great game plan and played really well, just couldn't close. Credit LCA for battling back.

Just down the road in Fishersville, the Hornets continue their dominant offensive onslaught with a convincing 3rd victory over rival Staunton. The young big is finding his way. The Hornets will welcome LCA, who eliminated them from football, little added motivation for a few players. I like Wilson to hold serve at home this Weds. They are playing so well and they match up great with LCA from size and athleticism standpoint.

Down in Covington, Rocktown got their get back on Alleghany. 54-46 was the score in early Dec, in favor of the Cougars. Yandel Robles, who missed the first meeting, hit 4 threes on his way to game high 25 pts.

Top seed Western was on the ropes for 3 quarters. East Rock, playing without Valley Distict POY Trey Moore who was injured Friday vs Monticello, came out scrapping. They welcomed the slow pace and led 21-14 at half. Leading 34-33 early in the 4th, ER proceeded to turn it over on 5 of their next 6 possessions and Western went on a 20-3 run. Western didn't shoot well 1st half but found a way late.

Weds Semifinals
Rocktown @ Western Albemarle
LCA @ Wilson Memorial

Should be a great pair of games weds. May everyone stay healthy and good luck to all. GO RAPTORS!

That Rocktown score is downright shocking, especially on the road. But I seem to remember that they beat Wilson earlier in the year, so they must be the real deal.

Rocktown hasn't lost since Jan 6th. Western also is missing their starting 6'6 center and the difference has been noticeable since he went down. Western won the first meeting 69-52 in December but Rocktown can absolutely pull it off. Advantage Western at home - more experience and poise, but should be a great game.

LCA/Wilson should be very fun. Crazy that LCA almost didn't make it out of the first round. I'm leaning Wilson here at home too, but LCA is absolutely good enough. Very fun region

Neither game was close. Western led 11-10 after 1st, then ran away in the 2nd quarter. Rocktown made 7 three's vs Alleghany, they hit 2 tonight, 1 in garbage time. They missed a slew of contested layups as well. All credit to Western, Coach is elite and it showed. Their players have such high IQ, they executed extremely well tonight. Great season Raptors, 2nd banner going up in the gym for your district title!(Boys Soccer last year) They'll return 3/5 starters and some solid young guys from a 20-1 JV team. Western without the big, not sure how far they go at the state level. They won't be outcoached though.

LCA-Western rubber match should be great. I've got Western by 6.
