Yep, there was no sunlight left to dry the outfield. By time they dumped it and it dried a little, it would have been dark and cold, which isn't drying anything. The wind would have helped dried it some, but by time we started back it was going to be a real feel of under 30 degrees on a wet field.

Absolutely. I work in the turf industry and definitely understand how elite those guys are. It’s amazing what they do. Sometimes Mother Nature just wins and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Players would’ve been sliding all over the place in the grass and would’ve been really late anyway. Not worth the risk.
It is wild to even consider that the coaches or admin made a decision to call it because they are scared to lose. Safety first, just like school closings here with minimal snow or ice, not worth the chance of a faculty, staff, student or bus having an accident that could have been preventable.
