This is my one issue with this series, we are on Episode 4 and the next episode is the season finale?

And this episode was all of 45 minutes maybe?

Not sure if it the same reason, but I remember they scaled back on the season finale of House of Dragons due to budget. Is that what is going on here as well?

Love the show otherwise.
No, not really. This is based on a novella (about 100-pages). The story is direct and to the point. Actually, they needed to add in content to even make it 6 episodes.

I think cutting the season 2 HotD budget was due to WB trying to get bought (and the need to clean up its finances).

Seems more like a micro-series. Quick episodes and short season.

Finally got around to watching the last episode. That fight scene was brutal in a good way. This show makes me miss GOT but I still get pissed when I think of the ending

GOT might win the award for the Best Show Ever (seasons 1-5) and the Worse Show Ever (Season 8). LOL!

saw the scene where he gets it in the head. Thanks for the heads up!
No problem! It was a brutal shot, but you can tell that the brother didn't know who he was swinging at, just that there was a threat behind/to the side of him.

Episode 6 10 was the best episode imho. Also liked 7 7,

season 8 was bad

Season 8 was both during Covid with all the stupid restrictions.

They also were trying to close everything out with no real source material any longer.

Amazon prime screwed up the last season of The Expanse the same way… Have to give some grace understanding the conditions/circumstances these crews were working on your own.

I don't want to say the "w" word but essentially this show is ran by two people (Hess/Condal) that interjected their world views into the story and the result is an unfaithful adaptation of the source material and a mess of a show.

Isn't Aemon at the Citadel during this time? I know him and Egg were close as kids and gave him his nickname. Their friendship plays a big part later on allowing Egg to ascend to the throne unchallenged.
Yes, that is correct regarding Aemon. They are good brothers! One of the few in Westeros. :)

The final season of GoT came out in 2019, before the pandemic.

Dab & Dave were burnt out and rushed through the final two seasons without GRRM’s source material and it showed.

AKOTSK had some odd decisions (having the main character poop in the first minute, plus the music in episode 6 was odd).

But it was an entertaining six episodes that I enjoyed.

have to be honest, after the last episode, this one was kind of a let down
The last episode is always the aftermath/wrap-up of the crazy penultimate episode. The dust needed to settle and future seasons set-up (i.e., Egg ending up with Dunk). I enjoyed the chill episode, but definitely expected it.

They are already filming season 2 and HBO has committed to releasing it every Jan.

They probably should have combined the last two episodes or ended the season with the battle. Hard to top that action so I knew this would be a snooze fest

The music at the end made no sense at all.

And I still don’t get why they opened the show with the protagonist spewing poo behind a tree.

But I enjoyed it. Definitely an improvement over the House of Dragons retread and the final two seasons of GoT

I knew Egg was lying when he said his father said he can go. I guess that sets up a plot for season 2

16 Tons is the ultimate anthem for the working class or commoner. My old man used to sing this to us when we were kids. This series is from the perspective of a commoner. Sir Arlen was no-one in Westeros history but to Dunc, he was a survivor and all he has to go on. Now Egg is to learn the lessons of the commoner, with all the hard knocks and obstacles that go along with it. I like the choice. The GOT Theme would not have worked here. The bathroom humor might also be a "common man" thing. Can't think of any other reason they would show that.

They also show Barathean taking a piss in the final episode.

And Dunc and the other guy throwing up.

Yea but do they have to show us the main character shitting while standing up in the first minute?

Those other scenes were mild by comparison.

It was one of several odd choices that just doesn’t make sense

I viewed all that as being different for the sake of being different. Wanted to set right from the start this will be a different vibe then GoT or HoTD.

I don't disagree.

I'm just wondering if there was a point to it. Specifically the shitting and pissing, to start and end the show. Typically it's not random.

Since this thread is talking about the scene the writer/director accomplished the objective. Provoke discussion…question meaning…annoy people…checks all boxes. I personally thought the scene was forced and unnecessary.

They were making light of the Game of Thrones theme song by starting to play it and cutting directly to him shitting behind a tree while standing up.

Definitely not random, but there were less repulsive ways to show this is a different type of show than GoT and HoD.

I enjoyed the show. But there were several odd moments that took you out of it which defeats the purpose of fantasy (like that and the weird music choices).

I did enjoy how less ridiculously sexualized this version was. The casting was spot on… I’m 6’7 and would not stand for a short Dunk.

I’m only talking about it as one of the weirder and more unpleasant aspects of the show.

I almost turned it off.

If those are the boxes they wanted to check then ✅

Stop nitpicking. The show was great and they did an amazing job bringing the source material to life. GRRM was thrilled with it and involved every step of the way.

Disagree that it was “great” but it was entertaining.

GRRM should finish his books and get off of TV. Wasn’t Winds of Winter due 14 years ago?
