Kentucky has become like cheap "Popepourri" where the stench never goes away.

Just like someone who uses cheap potpourri in a bathroom after taking a horrific dump that's clogged the pipes, I am comparing Pope's defenders to cheap Popepourri after every game when Pope and Mitch take a combined dump on the fan base and this program. They try to make everything smell good, but they keep using the cheap stuff.

No matter how many artificially flowery fragrences they put on this abomination, it's clear someone just took a huge dump right before BBN walks into the door.

Only way to deal with the problem is to fix the pipes, and that means flusing Pope and Mitch down the drain as well.

Got to get to the root cause of the strench, and fast before it takes over the whole house.

Let’s not pretend this is anything new. The last years of Calipari’s tenure here were dogshit.
The issue to me is not even the $22 million at this point, because injuries do have to be factored into all of that. Instead, it's that we certainly have the talent to beat the Auburns, Missouris, and Georgias of the world, and yet Pope has found a way to lose to all three (including two home games).

That's the part that tells me he's not the man for this job. We have more talent than all three of those schools, and two of those games were at Rupp. You take care of business and you're 20-7 with a 11-3 SEC record and probably trending toward a top 3 seed. Instead, we lose all three of those games against extreme fringe bubble teams and we're now sitting at 17-10.

Inexcusable. There's no way an elite coach loses more than one of those games.

People will say that we are missing 2 starters and our 6th man due to injuries (and draft status).

I don’t know if we beat any of those teams with our full roster, but since we never had the full roster for more than 2 games who knows, but this team was not put together very well.

Hopefully, next season will be better but looking at our incoming class of players I’m kind of worried. We haven’t proven that we can get studs from the portal that are Superstars and can lead us deep into the tournament.

I disagree with OPs conclusions, but i will say at least people are finally coming around to something I’ve been saying since the Louisville game. The reason we are losing these games is not due to a talent discrepancy. Anyone who watches the film can see Pope hasn’t done a good enough job with this team on the court.

Pope has coached some really good games and some bad ones. I don’t know if he’s the “right man for the job” or not — the current record is hard to argue in favor of him. But he did exceed expectations the first year and I’ll be hoping year three looks more like what we thought year two was going to be. FWIW my posts should still up from back in the summer where I plainly said the way that roster was built I thought it seemed like we were going all in for 2027. I still stand by that.

I’m also going to stand with my coach. What’s the alternative? Hop on here literally every single day miserable for the next 400 days? When we win, look at all the things we didn’t do better and say we should have lost? When we lose, declare that we won’t win another game? Post repeatedly how bad we are, insomuch that you can’t tell my posts from a rival fan who’s dunking on us? Not all of us want to do that — not yet. Especially not to a coach who, even if he ends up the worst coach we ever had here, is doing everything in his power to be what we wanted him to be. Meanwhile, we say we love Kentucky basketball and we make viciously personal attacks on him all the time. For what? Not winning? Well, he’s trying to do that.

We shouldn’t treat our own that way and no, he shouldn’t have been hired. Everyone agrees with that. But he was. I was guilty of doing that to one of our own…after one of the losses, I got really frustrated and posted memes making fun of Pope myself, and I felt bad about it afterwards. I got all those pats on the backs and everyone had a good time with it but I felt like a fraud afterwards because Mark Pope isn’t just the current coach of Kentucky basketball. He’s a person just like you and me. I could have just kept things at “Mark Pope is failing as a basketball coach and I’d like another.” But, instead I made fun of his demeanor and his temperament — is that how I want to be treated? If I have a bad sales week, do I want people making memes of how much of a complete loser dork I am all the time 24/7? No.

The way we treat Pope, I’d have to assume those of us who continue to ridicule him are doing so because we have bodies that every woman fawns over, have chiseled jawlines that make Ryan Gosling look like Danny DeVito and have a swagger that even the great Rob Bromley can’t touch — but I’d guess most of the people doing it have body proportions closer to a bowl of jello, think dumbbells might be those sugary candies we like to eat and look closer to Danny DeVito.

I’m going to support our coach until he’s gone like I should have been doing from the start. Am I going to get upset? Yes. Am I going to always be honest about when I think he got outcoached? Yes. Am I always going to be straight up 100% honest to the core even when I’m the only one who says it? Yes. And I’ll do it with full hope that Pope fixes everything and there’s no amount of social pressure on here or anywhere else that will get me to feel ashamed for supporting the person who holds the keys to the program right now.

I’m with Mark Pope until he’s no longer here. When he’s gone, I’ll support the next guy. And when he’s gone, I’ll support the next guy. Until I’m gone. Whoever doesn’t like it, mute me. Coz I’m going to be outspoken to ensure that loyal fans still get to have a voice instead of being shamed out of the conversation.

If only the stench of incessant negativity would go away. It doesn't matter who the next coach is - He'll need to win 30 games + every single season so some can sit on their throne and eat grapes.

Fanbase before Pope: Hey guys, trust us. We gotta get rid of this HOF coach because the grass on the other side is so green. Hurley is probably chomping at the bit because WE ARE KENTUCKY.

After Cal goes off, then:

Mitch: Hey, uh, Dan…

Hurley: No

Mitch: We will pay you $767,898,434 and give you a KSR+ subscription for life…

Hurley: Not no, but f**k no!

Mitch: We are Kentucky!

Hurley: Yeah, so?

Mitch: I’ll buy you a bunch of Robux and some GameStop gift cards…

Hurley: Bye.

Then we end up with Pope…

Preseason fans: Omg, I really hope we make the tournament. Joe Lunardi is projecting us a bubble team but we can’t miss the tournament.

Pope leads team to a Sweet 16 and a 3 seed

Fans: Omg are you serious? Why didn’t he at least make the the Elite Eight with the 23rd best portal class and NO ONE ELSE ON THE ROSTER?

Pope struggled year two.

Fans: Ok kill him.

Fans again: Don’t forget guys. The grass is always greener. We DeFiNiTeLy CaNt Do aNy WoRsE tHaN pOpE cOz “We are Kentucky.”

Two months later…your new head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats — SHAKA SMART.

Fans: YEAH! We can’t wait to utterly humiliate this guy for being our coach.

A year ago we didnt have ANYBODY on the roster and ended up in the Sweet 16, anything is possible these days. With that said until Barnhart is gone there will be no fix for UK basketball.

Looks pretty damn good for 50+. Now post yours and we can compare. 😉

When it comes to leadership, what do you see in him that makes you think he will last?

We have read articles where these player’s agents state he is pouty
We have seen how he acts during difficult times.
The players do not seem to be respectful at times (eye rolls and yawning during press conferences)
He has yet to sign a high school player (I know you don’t think elite freshmen will help win a title (if they start)- but hell- give me Duke’s last couple of seasons over Pope’s
He averages double digit losses. First two years here- double digit losses.

You seem to bank on the outliers (Duke last year to demonstrate possible success) He has a history of a surprise win here or there. Then, he plays to his resume. People complain every second even though the outcome can’t be changed. Look at the never trumpers. That’s what we do when we aren’t happy.

I genuinely like you as a poster. But Pope is too far in over his head and needs to get out of Lex. I know Mitch will not fire him, but maybe he will get tired of being a laughingstock and leave. We are a joke, a meme with him leading our program. I guess, to summarize, every day that Pope is coach is another step closer to our turning into IU.

Dude, that Hurley BS never happened! Take a deep breath, and let some oxygen flow…

Do you honestly believe that Mitch would EVER consider Hurley with his over the top Alpha Male disposition? People want to to believe Hurley was considered, as well as Oats, but neither one received a call!

Not that Hurley wants to leave the east coast, but regardless, he was never contacted.

Mitch wanted a Low-T Soy Boi, and that’s exactly why he only considered Drew and Pope!

I won’t even mention Donovan, for the same reason as stated above.

FWIW I like you too, Ortho. I actually look forward to some of your quips coz I actually have the same goofy sense of humor but I think you are a little too harsh on Pope . And I don’t mean as a basketball coach. I mean always “he’s a dork” this, he’s a dork that. That’s fine. It’s your right to do it, but I’m giving it back to you a little. Pope is a little dorky — I think that’s clear. I bet you are probably a little dorky too. Either that or you probably aren’t in half the shape he is either. He is one of our championship captains and if sucks as a coach, fine — maybe just stop going personal all the time on him. Talking about how dumb he is, how much of a loser he is, all this stuff. Respectfully, you put in the work to earn a doctorate and there are not many people who can do that. But Pope was a Rhodes Scholar — he doesn’t need a helmet and a leash to get around. Maybe just criticize within bounds, otherwise I will hold you to the same standards. So far, as harsh as you’ve been, I’d expect you best be making Brad Pitt jealous or you’re being a tad much. I still love ya though.

As far as professionally, you have me at a weak moment. As much as I try not to let emotions cloud my judgement, I am human. And I’m still reeling over a three game losing streak so I don’t feel very warm and fuzzy about Pope atm…but no, I categorically deny that I pick and choose things when I evaluate. It’s something I’m very cognizant of and I make sure to be detailed for a reason. Eagles Ball asked me right before we won 8/9 how I can possibly still believe in Pope — I gave him a literal line-by-line breakdown of every single category I could think of for Pope as a coach and graded each individually. I do nothing halfway in basketball. I may the most polarizing person on the board, but there’s a rarely a single opinion I come to that I didn’t vet out and scrutinize deeply myself first.

Just for the record, I’m not married to Pope. I’m married to the University of Kentucky basketball program. Pope just happens to be the guy in that seat right now…and i see nothing we can do that will help the team by constantly ragging the coach. Mind you, hear me closely. I said ragging the coach. Not criticizing the coach. If someone says Mark Pope got outcoached by Mike “Milquetoast” White, do you think I’m going to argue with them? No, because it’s true. Pope got outcoached by Mike White. That doesn’t mean we have to throw as much dung as we can at the man. It gains us literally nothing.

One thing I hope you can appreciate me is I don’t really view this so much like a message board. Unless someone sets out to troll me unprovoked, I’ll treat you the same way on here that I would if I were standing 10 feet from you. So, if im giving someone the business, you can usually backtrack a little to find why.

We can talk about why I still haven’t completely given up on Pope but today is probably still not the day — I’m still pretty angry at my ball coach.

When I hear someone say “Low-T” I tune out lol. I don’t get the methodology on that one. If you believe in two genders like I do, you undercut your own philosophy when you start that nonsense. No man needs to prove they are a man — God gave that to you and He ain’t changing his mind. Lol.

As for the Hurley stuff, if you disagree cool. It was meant to be a joke and it even said it at the bottom of the post dude lol
