You are correct he is doing damage that may take years to undo.

Team captain on my favorite team. He’s one of us imo. In the 90s those Pitino teams were so much fun to watch. I understand why you don’t want him being our coach anymore. Just because he played here doesn’t mean to me that he can lower our standards.

How does he keep his job? All he has to do is simply wake up in the morning. He’s getting a third year no question. Sorry

Barnhart paid Utah a $6M buyout to get Pope here.
Popes original contract was 5 years/$27.5M
Pope recieved a one year extention for making the S16 meaning he has four years left on his deal AFTER this season.
He automatically receives 75% of his remaining contract if let go.
That means we would owe him $17M if we buy him out.
Add that to the $6M we paid for his buyout and the $11M we have already paid him and that comes to $34M down the tubes for two years of Pope.
If we did spend $22M on this years roster, thats $56M plus whatever we spent on last years roster. Add that to the new coaches salary, whatever we have to pay for his buyout from his previous school, and whatever we pay for next season's roster, and what are we talking about? $100M over a couple of seasons. Will Barnhart make that move, basically admit his own screwup? I think...no shot.

Only alum I’d take a chance on is Frank Vogel.

I loved watching those Pitino teams. I was in college at uk his first year. I went to New Orleans final four we lost. The main thing about those teams were Pitino not Mark Pope. He was a very good to average player. He is not from here and as a result I don't feel as if we owe him 5M a year to possibly learn how to be a successful coach. I thought Nate Stein was a great hire for the level our football team is in terms pecking order in sec. It may or may not work out but I am all in to give it a chance. Basketball is different. We consider ourselves on the level of Kansas, Duke, Uconn and as such we should expect to have a coach that will get us there and keep us there. I expect more from our administration, BOT and AD. They have all failed us with this hire and should be held accountable.
