Pope: I refuse to give control outside of our program "Fans included"

I don’t think he shouldn’t retract anything. I think he’s saying what he’s wanted to say for awhile. He just had to get frustrated enough to say it. Most of our fans are amazing but some of them are disturbing and coaches go to bat for their guys. It’s why I’ve been begging Pope to build a foxhole mentality for awhile now. I think that mentality in the postgame was a good one. I didn’t see a defeated coach —- I saw a pissed off, motivated one and I hope it leads to better team unity.
Did you watch the same game as me last night 🤨 ? Did you catch his postgame press conference 🤨

Idk. I assume we watched the same one. Did you watch the one where we got blatantly cheated or did you watch a different one? And yes, I loved the press conference. Been waiting on one like that.
Seen the game, wasn’t impressed by thier play at all, slow, clunky fast breaks and thier shooting left a LOT to be desired

So this thread is leading peopole to believe that Pope was talking about our fans when he wasn't, yet some just shrug their shoulders and decide to hate him even more and even boycot the games........over something he never said.

No wonder nobody wants to come here. The loud and beligerent minority makes it beyond toxic in this internet age.

Yea, that's a man who's very frustrated at the officials. Pope is a nerdy, wordy intellectual who has a bad habit of rambling. Honestly, I don't think he is a very good communicator in spite of his intelligence. He never really says anything precise and to the point. Has to use a lot of extra words that can confuse us normal folks. But watching that, I'm not even sure how anyone understood it to be negative about the fans, Thanks for the context.
I'm not sure who is in your profile pic, but I like it!

If we're watching the same thing and you are drawing this vastly different conclusion then there is no way I can convince you.

Just suffice it to say, I am seeing no where else on line where he was dogging UK fans.

He was clearly saying he wasn't going to blame losses on things in the game that weren't directly within the teams control. For example, the officials or the fans who influence the officials in an arena.
Except he does just that when he walks away.

He did pass on us twice. At the time he was at Florida off 2 titles I think? At the time it was reasonable for him to say no. It's also reasonable to think he would say no a third time because of his past actions of saying no. However, I think you still put him in the pool because many years has passed since then.
Serious question, and I am not presuming to have the answer...when players are signed or traded in the NBA or a coach is fired then another guy is hired...the club has always talked to the parties they were interested in and gotten an off the record response as to whether they are interested or not. We already know we have been turned down in the past. Hurley knew the amount of money we were talking about and he had no interest. Do we know that Oats and several other coaches weren't contacted and had declined as well? I know Pearl wasn't talked to, MB would never consider him. But I am not sure many of the top guys would A) leave a program they already have built a program and have success and job security and B) are interested in being thrown into a gig where if you have one bad season, you may be out. Understanding said season isn't even over..

Rather than being passive aggressive, Pope should take a stand and just be blunt. Take the fines and whatever discipline the SEC wants to dish out. If your players are being cheated, and if you think officials are corrupt, take a stand. It's not like the refs are going to take it any easier on us by giving them a pass. Whether it is gambling or some other reason, something is really wrong with the sport right now as a whole.

The moment is too much for Pope, and he's just not cut out to helm the ship. This is a period of transition in the sport, and recruiting and developing players is the only way that we survive as a program. Pope is failing miserably on that end, so the writing is on the wall. I'm prepared for next season being an unmitigated disaster. Far worse than this season has been.
My god, you guys are inventing reasons to critisize the guy.
Give me a break here. He's already getting murdered on here for being too passive, getting called out for making excuses and calling out the refs and now that he called out the refs in a way that doesn't paint him in a negative light, he's getting posts like this.
The guy literally can't win with this fanbase. Heck, nobody can.
If you become the head coach, handle it however you want, but the repercussions that come from handling it like you described, are pretty bad and I can about guarantee if he did go scortched earth on the refs and get fined, you would critisize him for that too.
I totally understand saying Pope is in over his head and isn't cut out for this job, but what I don't get, is all the hate he's getting.
Cal drove the program in the ditch, stopped putting in effort, flipped us the bird and mocked us and he didn't get half the hate Pope is getting right now.

"What do you talk to them..." I'm pretty sure he didn't word his question THAT way, lol.
I even read that over a few times before I posted it! But, to be fair, I was up at 5 am to travel out of town for work and posted that after my return trip home. Yep, I am doing EXACTLY the opposite of what Coach said about not making excuses!

I went back to the video and listened again and made some corrections to my post. I hope I got it right this time.

I’m glad he said it. Finally realized it’s UK vs the world. Screw being everybody’s buddy.

Get that chip on your shoulder. All our great coaches had it. They understood.

Like Cal said we gonna burn your village down. Get your matches Mark. Nobody’s gonna feel sorry for you or UK. Fight ‘em.
Actions speak louder than words. Thats another aspect as a coach that he needs to work on, how to handle the media. He’s been pretty embarrassing at times this year with that.

Welcome to life on the road in the SEC.
Our guys had to try to win the game and battle foul trouble the entire way. Meanwhile, Auburn didn’t have a single guy in foul trouble and could do whatever they wanted.
If you watched the game and didn’t see us get absolutely shafted by the refs, I can't help you.

Inventing reasons to criticize Pope? That press conference was awkward as hell, and especially the hot mic stuff at the end. I didn't have to invent anything. I'd respect him more if he just came out and addressed the issue head on. It's not a damned if you do, damned if you don't type of exercise.

Over the years, I've noticed that you have a seriously bad habit of narrating (in borderline histrionic fashion) far more into the posts that you reply to than was actually there to begin with. I had been fairly supportive of Pope last season and into a good chunk of this one. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. But man, it is looking pretty bleak now for the future of the program with Pope in charge.

I'm not the coach. And I'm not getting paid millions of dollars to get recruits and win basketball games. Ultimately, for whatever reason that's not happening. Winning is the bottom line.

Sounds like a you problem. I have zero issue with anything Pope said, or did in that press conference. I have been waiting for him to get p*ssed off and I don't care if it looks to you like it was awkward, he was legitimately p*ssed off and I hope the team feeds off that.

So many of you guys just want him to fail, but what if he has a great season and gets to a FF next year? Will you be here eating crow?

Look, I don't think he's ready for this job yet, but he's pouring everything he has into this and he is one of us, he wants this to work badly and we're trashing him while we sit on our couches at home.

Now, if Pope called us basketball Bennies and told us to deal with it, like Cal did, I would be right there with a pitchfork in hand, but Pope isn’t doing that, he's doing everything he can and we're crushing him for being p*ssed after a ref stole a game from us. Good sh*t… NOT.

You'll wait for what, a common sense answer?

The SEC wants as many teams in the NCAAT. Was Auburn headed for the wrong side of the bubble? Here, I'll answer for you… ..YES

Would a win over UK help Auburn's chances of making the tournament? Here, I'll answer for you… .YES.

??? WTF do you mean "and"?

You asked me a question and I answered it. You even tried to be a smart-*** and end your question with "I'll wait".

What else do you need? This isn’t hard.
It’s not hard to see, your right

I wonder if anyone else feels that way 🤔

I never said this was UK basketball. Last year was a good start for Pope, this season has been a disaster, but even the greatest coaches in the history of the sport had terrible years.
Again, I don't think Pope is the right guy, but he has shown he has coaching talent and injuries have been a problem
He's getting a 3rd year, you get that, right? If he sucks, he's gone. It's that simple.
