Something needs to change, coaching, recruiting or whatever, somethings gotta change
That's a sobering stat, but not surprising. Duke has been killing it on the recruiting trail and running on 8 cylinders, while the Cats have not performed at an elite level for several years. I hate to say it, but Kentucky has become increasingly irrelevant on the national stage.

I am UK graduate, Fellow and life-long fan with no love for Duke, but must admit that I'd much rather play in Cameron than Rupp. More FUN ...
It is just a much better atmosphere for a young college athlete to enjoy playing in. It would be similar to the Cats playing in Memorial Coliseum.

Duke has taken the NIL game seriously, they're not being held back by the AD or school in any way, the ACC has been trash lately, and it's very hard to win at Cameron.

Meanwhile, coaches across the country declined to coach here, our AD has us in bed with JMI for the foreseeable future, our AD has a 'no list' which includes coaches fans wanted and could have succeeded here, Pope's credentials didn't scream 'head coach at Kentucky', UK has failed in recent years to get better while the SEC has done just that, and Rupp isn't extremely hard to win in because our fans are older and sit on their hands and the rich class gets the best seats on the court.

Duke continues to take basketball seriously. UK continues to have a "meh" type attitude.

Move the university over here in west Kentucky /Tennessee. Where the real fans are. We can understand the game and still act a fool at the games. “Quiet because we are Knowledgeable”.

river rat baby time for some real change. East Kentucky is letting the program take a 💩Down the leg and not even tryna find a public restroom. Just keeps walking around with streak stains stinkin all day.

Anybody that thinks Pope is a good recruiter is very delusional. Pope is arguably one of the worst recruiters I have ever seen. He’s awkward and goofy. Hes borderline a dweeb and he doesn’t have people skills.
That’s pretty much it. Pope’s problems have nothing to do JMI or Rupp. Someone mentioned being better to play in Memorial. The winning percentage for UK at Memorial and Rupp is identical.

The top of the line recruits have their sights set on the NBA. Anyone can see that Pope is not helping them get there.

If they are blind to that then rivals are quick to point that out.

Then Pope has no recruiting plan. He doesn’t sit down with a player and show him his vision for how he wants to play and that player’s role in it.

Pope did have a problem with being labeled a system coach. Those guys do not want to be called system players.

But that’s gone away because no one can describe any system that Pope might be using.

His biggest problem is he just can’t relate to the players.

Pope has an unlimited amount of money to spend on players. I don’t know if the $22 mil is correct but no one cares if it is.

Theres more money in Lexington than most people could ever fathom. And that’s not even counting the Saudi money in Lexington or the one person worth around $8 billion.

Since it’s likely Pope will be gifted another season he needs to completely change his recruiting focus. He needs to get good college players that have a ceiling of playing in college. Guys that have already been coached and self motivated. Guys that think they have been overlooked and have a chip on their shoulder.

They have to come here with skills. Then mold those guys into a team.

I don’t know if he can even do that. But he has to start somewhere. What’s he’s doing now is an epic fail.

Scheyer has much better athletic department behind him. They have a GM with connections.

Also, an alumni’s son happens to be the best in college basketball. That helps.

Pope has underachieved as a coach so far but Scheyer has 6 five star players on his current roster and he had 6 last season

I would like to see what Scheyer could do coaching our current roster because talent matters.

LMAO. Nothing to do with the school, the toxic fans, the JMI restrictions...just Pope
It’s crazy that you’ll blame fans for the poor product before you’ll blame the coach, why do you think it’s so necessary to have undying loyalty for the head coach? Makes no sense

I do blame the coach. Completely. Its his responsibility. I also believe its not right to fire a man for one bad season when he had 3 injuries. The one bad season will still be the one bad season when we play our last game this year

And if next year is more of the same? What exactly will it take for you to see that he’s not the right coach for Kentucky
