It was an excellent game to watch and a genuinely patriotic post-game celebration. All of the players on both teams today make big money in the NHL, but it was clear they were all hugely motivated to win for their country. The exhuberance on the USA side after the game was equaled by the dejection on the Canada bench. It was a worthy conclusion to these games.

And the women's team, they chose not to accept the president's invitation. Ugh!

Jack Hughes is the man. I don't care one iota about his political affiliation or beliefs. He loves America and is using their platform of the hockey win to let everyone know about it. He's the antithesis of the limp-wristed libs who say "it's complicated" about representing America.

I don't know if there's anything there or not. I'm sure they could have made it work if they really wanted to. However, seven members of the team are still in college and had already missed a lot of time for the Olympics. Academic obligations were cited as one reason for the absence.

In their statement declining, they did say they were honored to have been invited. They didn't decline and use the opportunity to dump on Trump and America. So, yeah, they declined, but they didn't make a political statement out of it.
