OT: Southwest Airlines.. I don't know how they're gonna make it after losing all their handicap passengers.

I mean.. after WN went to assigned seats all their handicap passengers have vanished. Over the years you could always count on 5-6 passengers in wheelchairs boarding in the "extra time" group ahead of everyone else.. Unless it was a flight departing or flying to Memphis.. then there would be 10-15 wheelchair passengers minimum. Telling you man, Memphis has a LOT of people who can't get around without wheelchairs.

But over the last month? ...None.. nada.. zilch.. I just don't understand. Can anyone explain it??

Is this one of those wheel of fortune puzzle solving situations?

I wouldn’t fly SW for the herd seating. The word was they had a serious pre-boarding issue. People figured out you could say literally anything medical and pre-board with a basic economy ticket. That’s why I fly American. I can use my exp status to board first, almost always FC, & judge all the peasants that pass us to the back of the plane. Nothing like legroom & a pdb

Yeah and they would magically need no help getting off the plane. Jetway Jesus healed their lazy asses.

If you aren't well enough to get on a plane without assistance, I'm not letting you do it on your own deboarding. You are sitting down until everyone else gets off and then I'll help you off. That's the safest way if you need the help. My liability/your safety is more important than your convenience.

Airlines should smarten up and load the plane from the back to the front. Then disembark from the front the back. So stupid to board the front first then everyone walk over them
But then they couldn't charge extra for the convenience and guarantee for overhead baggage.

Even better, load the window seats from back to front, then the middle seats back to front, and finally the aisles. Have everyone line up before hand so everyone can just walk on the plane.

Allocate a portion of each bin for each seat, so that the windowers can't hog up all of the space.

Don’t forget the 5-10 family members that must accompany them as they board. Never fails.
Yep.. all those people are oddly missing too. Strange, I tell ya. And the extra legroom up front since they spread the first few rows out is niiice...

I was critical of WN changing things.. but I'll happily eat my crow. The last 4 weeks has been blissful.

There are plenty of ways that could make sense when executed but the common denominator is people and people are a bunch of mouth breathing morons when it comes to following basic boarding instructions.

Jackson to ATL, every wheelchair in the airport is used. Strangely, no wheelchairs needed upon arrival in ATL, they sprint off the plane.

Also what worries me about that flight is that airlines plan for the average passenger to weigh 170lbs when calculating fuel burn, the only folks under 350 lbs are me and the flight crew.

Oh and I'll assure you the Jackson to ATL flight is more ghetto than the Memphis to ATL flight.

Why does anybody want to board first? Even if I have an aisle seat on the front row I don't want to sit in that germ infested tin can next to some overweight mouth breather any longer than I have to. I book an aisle seat and sit at the gate and wait until they're about to close the door before I wander in and sit and I travel only with a bag that fits under the seat. Even with that plan I just hardly ever fly anymore because of the shi-tty azz people that you have to put up with

1. Load from the back to the front.
2. Quit charging so damned much for checked bags so that everyone isn’t trying to stuff huge suitcases in the overhead.
3. I’ve never understood the rush to board first. The planes not leaving until everyone is boarded and the less time I have to spend on that flying Petri dish, the better.
4. I’m headed to the airport in a few minutes for a 7:02am flight so my theories are subject to change.

Airlines completely suck these days.
Their handicap boarding rules are insane. Just like the doctors that give handicap designations to just about anyone for their car. It seriously jerks my chain at the grocery store to see people park in handicap parking spaces then jump out and walk into the store better ability than me. I overheard one co-worker bragging to another that they got a handicap designation from her doctor because her diabetes was off.

Why can’t airlines hire chic fil a workers? It would run completely smooth.

Ain’t that the damn truth. And the people in the back who immediately stand up upon landing…….

Something I have never understood. Also, the last couple of flights I’ve taken, I’ve watched people in the back immediately jump up after landing and start pushing their way up the aisle like it’s a race to the exit. I used to fly all the time years ago, and it definitely didn’t feel this bad. Boarding and deplaning etiquette just seems to be getting worse....I’m not typically a “get off my lawn” type of guy, but a little common courtesy.

I want to board last. 17 sitting in that cramped seat longer than I have to. And 17 dealing with a lot of bags on the plane. I’ll gate check that before I get on.

It's a consequence of flying getting cheaper. Sucks because there's no real reason it has to be that way. Some of the tradeoffs are inevitable (e.g., smaller seats, less pitch, nickle and dime fees, etc), but there's not real reason that the people have to suck. Having people get on the plane with decent hygiene and appropriately dressed in clean clothes shouldn't be too much to ask.

I'm the opposite of most. I check everything. It it doesn't fit in my pockets, it gets checked. I hate lugging carry-ons around. I stay in Delta Skyclub soaking down suds until the last possible second and hop on the plane. Probably an extra 50-100 free beers through my lifetime... Fingers crossed, but I've never had a luggage incident.

I had a luggage incident on United years back that scarred me. Sometimes i check the way back but for short trips a roller and backpack stays with me. And you ain't lying on the clubs. That's the only way to do airports.

On Southwest there wasn't reserved seats, that's why they all wanted to board early. If I have an assigned seat I take my time getting on unless I'm in 1st class. I'll get on early and get a beer.

Same. I’d rather sit in the nice comfortable seats at the gate until the last possible minute.

Pro tip - if you ever have fly military, you want to be either the very first or very last person to board. That doesn’t apply to soldiers and jar heads, yall probably have some type of loading system planned out, i can’t help it if you weren’t smart enough to get in the AF.

Here’s what I don’t understand.

Why not board the back of the plane first? Have the attendants monitor the luggage space at the front of the plane.

Seems like things would go faster and smoother and I’d get to just sit out in the terminal and be on the plane less time.
