I was wondering the same thing about OJ. I personally like him better out of the pen and would really like to see him get some work before ECU. I think Mcduffie needs an inning today as well. He did not look good against IU.

OJ was significantly better in relief last year vs. starting, right? I think it’s good on balance if the freshmen are pushing for opportunities over him, though disappointing for him personally. I know you can’t just do a 1:1 comparison but if last year’s OJ is the floor for the staff we’re definitely in a great spot with pitching.

How good is Longwood compared to Richmond? Worse, better, or about the same?
3-0 sweeping NJIT:
- 10-1
- 3-2 (15 innings)
- 15-0 (7 innings)

So hard to tell with really no prior knowledge other than the scores of that series. But they have shown they can hit bad pitching so we will see. If it means anything in Warren Nolan's ELO Richmond is 153 versus Longwood's 220. But that is basically all preseason bias

So is OJ hurt? We didn’t see him in the series against Indiana, so I assumed he would probably be starting today. Kind of worrisome, because he’s great out of the bullpen at least.

I know we are only 4 games in but I was hoping to see a new option at third. Nicholson’s defense has been solid but he’s 0’fer on the season. Sometimes it does a player good to sit and watch.

Yea, he's struggling......last year's third baseman struggled at the plate to start the year too. Got his first hit of the season in game 4.......turned out pretty good.......Takes time to acclimate, but by all accounts, Nicholson raked in the fall with most power on the team....

I’d be worried but he’s second on the team in walks (5) and has been hit twice.

I posted in another thread but pretty sure he has an .438 OBP which is crazy impressive after going 4 games hitless

Exaclty, he is putting together quality at bats and getting on base. To quote Billy Beane, "he gets on base"

Looks like Boston's trusting his 4-seam again, running it up to 96. in the fall and in his first appearance he was throwing sinkers at 91-92 and IIRC he told Grace that ditching the 4-seam helped a lot with refining his command and control

Curious about this, I was thinking wow he's throwing 94-96 sinkers but that makes more sense

Really like the balance of our right handed hitters from what I have seen. No one has over exaggerated loads (Gallagher probably the most moving parts). May not produce a lot of power from that side of the plate, but should be a high contact, deep count team vs. any pitching type.

Single and walk to start the inning....Longwood stole third, Hynek throw into left field, scores one, Brown struck out on play, Nash to third.

Flannery Ks Ben Pulliam looking...walks Max Lawon....1st and 3rd, two outs.

First two on in the 2nd, double steal and we throw it in to LF for a run for L'Wood.

Flannery fans the next two batters with runner on 3rd.

A run scores but credit to Boston for responding and getting out of the inning, the walks he will still have to work on

I think Flannery has looked pretty good. Slider is consistent, fastball has a little late life, pitching around the edges. Looks like he is also throwing a 2 seam with some late movement.
