In mid year I thought FAU and USF were the top two concerns. Not sure what has happened to FAU...
I think Carlyle happened or didn't happen. Through most of this losing streak they didn't have their #2 scorer,
PG, co-assist leader & their more senior conducter on a team that has a lot of young players. I'm assuming they just needed him, as a scorer in general, but also as someone who orchestrated the offense better, & I'm assuming other teams did things to defend him that they didn't have to do without him. The teams who beat them in the losing streak(which was almost everybody) could just focus on other players a lot harder. They just didn't have a replacement(s) for him.
With him and that sub at full strength, they lost the first game of their losing streak. That was a road game and he played 36 min. They still lost by 14
@USF. They finally got him back just in time to come in and play the home against USF, his first game back at full strength. They only lost by 2 at home. That's closer than we played them. Maybe he didn't have time to adjust to playing full tilt after having been out for a few weeks. Maybe they were just not quite good enough to beat them in either game this year, like us.
There's a good chance that USF is not the only team we've got to be careful of in the tourney. We'll have to watch what they do in their final five games. They have a couple of warm up road games @ UTSA, then N Texas. Then they play home games against Temple & Charlotte, and then a road game against Wichita St.
