Zrno is making strong case for most improved in season

his defense has gone from dreadful to serviceable and the team has found ways to get him looks with him becoming better moving without the ball

he’s 43% from 3 over last 8 games all big ten opponents … Rutgers hasn’t had a pure shooter like that other than cam under pike and Zrno stroke looks quicker

I am very happy they won. Richie and other mods didn't expect any conference wins, yet Pike is able to win some games with inferior talent
If anything the mods blew smoke up our butts as fans thinking we could win games… I remember several threads calling out mods for the false optimism when we looked terrible early on

so no not correct

Disagree with you. Now, I'm not going to go out and say they predicted no conference wins, because I don't recall that being true. But the podcasts weren't bubbling over with optimism for the coming season.
I linked their preseason predictions above. They all predicted between 5 and 7 conference wins.

You're not wrong in terms of the podcasts, but I think that was more talking worst case and that it COULD be really bad.

Yes in there discussion podcasts after each game they were down on the team...who wouldnt be. We were atrocious losing to Central Connecticut State. If you are losing by 13 at home to them yeah going winless pops into your head. There were a couple of threads popped up here with people revising to 2-4 wins but in the original threads people were mainly 4-8 wins

Good lord they were 2-11 coming into yesterday and 3-11 now..thats not anything good

Point is the poster made an assertion that was inaccurate given there was a preseaon article with predictions

Fair enough. But we still aren't good by any measure.

I have probably been to a half dozen Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops. Four hours can fly by and even if you don’t buy anything, it is a great day out for the family. If anyone has been to the one in Atlantic City, that is the toddler size version lol. This new one is a full grown adult size. The one in Memphis is The King size! Not positive, but I think the new one in Sayreville will have a restaurant.
It's very regional, but if you can ever make it to a Scheels, I highly recommend it. I used to be die hard Cabelas loyal until I ran across Scheels.

He's playing better but he still missed 2 wide open 3's and he has to hit those

Thought the Knights of Honor induction was going to be during half-time; and not in front of a less than half-full arena before the game. And while they had a nice half-time presentation - thought they could have found time to bring out Troy, Hinson & Battle at that time, in front of a much larger crowd. But overall it was good to see them get this honor.

It's Rutgers. No surprise. They need to pretend every game is a Home B1G Game at night when planning this stuff. THAT they kick A$$ on.

great to see them honored but i agree the timing was off. Should have done at halftime but they also wanted to do the parade of players too which strangely not many from 2000 on.

He shot 43% from three in the game, and he should have made 2 others? How about someone else on the team make 2 above the 18% they shot?
He was in rhythm and hot there..and once he rimmed out that potential third in a row he/they went away from him. Seems to happen on this team over the years..going away or sitting the hot hand. His last attempt was a bit rushed, desperate, and hence flat. I would have loved to see them go right back to him after that rim out miss but in the end. We won and finished well. That's good enough for me!

He’s shopping 43% over the last 8 big ten names from 3 and people are nit picking 2 misses in a convincing win

im all for throwing fuel to the fire when there’s something to complain about but he’s developed

old freshmen or young freshmen he’s still a freshman and he’s improved over the season and is shooting better from distance than anyone has at Rutgers under pike over that length

Yeah, unfortunately, the offense isn't a feed the hot hand, its a get yours offense. Unless he almost goes to take the ball, the chances of it finding him in rhythm consistently is slim.

Yup. He's like 39% in conference overall too. It's his defensive effort I've been most impressed with. He's working out there.

Yesterday was the perfect example. They came out of the half moving, passing, and sharing. Opened up the game and lead to 13. Then at about 8:30 left I watched them revert back into the ISO stuff and while they made some shots, that's when the lead went down to 6. I was shocked they gathered and finished. T Time took over.

And I don't want to get back on Pike because as I said in that game thread he did a great job at the half..I just don't get why he doesn't see this in-game and get on them about it. They are So much better when playing like a normal offensive team in flow with movement and space.

I would like to see him and Powers on the floor together (along wiht Francis) more these last 6 games

They move the ball well together and provide each other with open looks

I would love to see Zrno and Powers play 4 years together On The Banks, would be very exciting ( and loud) at The RAC !

Agree, I was very pleased and encouraged by the start of the 2nd half.

Have to give Pike a little credit, he let that starting 2nd half unit play together for over 9 minutes, which may be a record for him.

I could be wrong, but it seemed like MD adjusted a bit after our outburst early in the 2nd half. The Terps were covering better on the downscreens and closing out on our shooters, so our guys were reluctant to shoot those threes with a hand in their faces, and then it's a scramble the last 10 seconds of the clock, so, yeah, more iso there. But I saw them still running sets and TRYING to get looks initially.

If you just watch Zrno you see the effort on defense, and on offense he moves well without the ball, setting screens, making back door cuts, and generally creating space for himself and others.

He also keeps the ball moving — it does not get stuck — he either passes or shoots it, and dribbles sparingly, only with a purpose.

He would do well in a motion offense, as would Powers, who plays with his head up and is an excellent passer who can also pull up instantly for an open jumper.

I hope we keep them both.

Wherever Powers goes (and I would like him to stay and develop knowing full well that "develop" is a not a thing these days) he needs to lock himself in a gym and hoist up a ridiculous amount of jump shots during the offseason. All that said, that move in the lane when we really needed that basket was beautiful.

The hot hand gets taken out at the next time out.

I thought Zrno looked like a babe in the woods early on. He would get pushed and not push back. Now he's pushing back and giving as good as he gets. Now I know absolutely nothing about the European league. But I suspect that play is a lot softer, whereas in the US they let a lot more go. So, it took some time for him to adjust.
