Saw this on my facebook page: if you could bring back any former gamecock football player to play next season who would it be and why?

Name one player on our current offense who would be a starter on our offense when Connor Shaw was QB. Shaw's supporting cast was head and shoulders above what Sellers has to work with.
But our '24 team might be different. Some of those guys are NFL....Rocket, Dalevon Campbell, Gage Larvadian, Joshua Simon. They'd be in some kind of rotation.

Dude got suspended then eventually kicked off the team. He finished at SCSU. He's not even in the Top 10 all time rushers a USC.
He had his chance with the NFL and CFL. Never made a roster.
Duce got 5,785 yds rushing in the NFL, has a SB ring & is still coaching.
Sometimes we see what we want to see.

That's fine. You can have your opinion & I can have mine. However, I'd wager heavily that if you polled 100 people who truly saw both play for Carolina & asked who was the superior RB, Watson would get 75% of the vote. He was a much more talented player, but was simply an idiot.

Easy: Connor Shaw. Why? He won games. He had the "it" factor at QB.

(Yes, I know this will be irresistible bait for the "Shaw wasn't a good QB crowd")
1000000% correct. Great decision maker, solid passer, and was easily as mobile as sellers. Plus, he didn't run straight backwards for 15 yard sacks if he was in trouble. Smart enough to just take the 2 yard sack and live to play another down

He couldn't hold Watson's jock.

Duce was a damn fine back & darn near carried the team in '96. We'd have been better than 6-5 had he not had a high ankle sprain in the latter part of the year. Had a good NFL career. However.......he was not the RB Derek Watson was. Watson was just a damn fool. Had he had a decent head on his shoulders, he'd have had a 10+ year NFL career.
In high school, Summers was insane. Watson was not the number 1 running back in the country. Summers was by far the best RB coming out of high school.

And I have seen Watson in the hospital a couple of times over the years. That's one dude who wishes he could turn back time

The defense had a lot to do with those wins. Solid QB, but he wasn't the type to go out and just win a game for you. One of the best QBs we have had at SC, but we have never had an upper echelon QB. I have to go with Senior Year Sharpe as some other posters have said. Only player at Carolina that I was expecting something big to happen every time he touched the ball.
2013 Missouri would like a word

1 comeback in 3 years starting does not make a great QB. Sellers has done that. I don't think anyone is calling Sellers a great QB right now.
He was a great quarterback because he won a lot of games, including going undefeated at home and never losing to Clemson. You're the one who said he wasn't the QB who could go win a game for you, then moved the goalposts once someone pointed that very accomplishment out.

Big George
I think you, and many others, would be very disappointed in what George would do in today's college football world. In his time, he was a beast, 6'2"/225 lbs, that was larger than a LB and borderline DL size and could run like a WR. Defenses did not see RBs like that back then. Today, he would be an average size SEC RB with good speed.

Not sure we still don't still finish 6-5 even with Duce 100% the whole year. We were 5-3 when he suffered the ankle injury in 1996. We're not beating Tennessee(top 5 team fighting for major bowl at that point) and definitely not beating Florida(#1 ranked team at that time on a mission to avenge their nat'l title game loss the year before) even with Duce at full strength. Clemson may or may not stay as the same result.

I'll go to my grave & say we beat Tennessee with a healthy Duce. Lost by 2 TDs, one of which was scored quite late. Freakin' Scott Moritz carried the load that day.

Duce played against that school upstate. Had over 100 yards rushing.
