Throw strikes damnit! Yes, we threw plenty. You don't get 32 strikeouts in 25 IP without that, but we also threw way too many balls. While they didn't always result in walks, they did result in elevated pitch counts for our starters... 85, 90 and 92 pitches, and none of them got past the 5th inning. That definitely needs to improve.

I mean - we gave up 4, 2, and 3 (2 unearned) this weekend to another P4 team.... Pitching was pretty dang good
We did walk too many guys this weekend. Indiana wasn’t hitting the ball well enough for us to be nibbling like we were. They didn’t seem like they could handle our pitching staff’s stuff, but we gave them a lot of free bases.
Apparently the box score posted online doesn’t give you ball/strike counts anymore with the pitch count. I’d like to know our strike percentage.

It's February, and opening weekend.....couple things to consider....
Player wise on Strike percentage...
DeCaro - 56.7 on 90 pitches
Lynch - 63 on 92
Boaz - have 63.5 on 85

And it’s February after an unusual preseason. Ice storm then snow storm. You can throw bullpens but it’s not the same as live action.
65-70 ish.....anything over 75 is elite.

I think you missed my point. I wasn't criticizing the overall pitching performance... just the high pitch count. The starters averaged just under 18 pitches per inning. If we want them going 6+ innings, that average needs to come down, and I'm guessing it will, but it's definitely something I will be watching over the next few weeks.

In Carolina has been awful and honestly the hitting was better than i thought it would be as well. But with two winter storms back to back and freezing temperatures behind them it's been rough up there. Honestly Carolina probably did not have a great deal of advantage weather wise over IU this year. Look around LVille lost twice to Michigan State at home ( you know it's been brutal in LVille ) ECU lost twice to Xavier at home. It's early but with the brutal cold weather in the south this year i think everyone is behind and in the same boat with northern teams. BTW is was cold in Florida to .

If I was going to complain, it’d be about our lack of hitting against not great starting pitchers this weekend. But it’s early and the hitting usually heats up after a few games
