Rough way for the winning streak to end; team 2-10 in B1G and yet another nobody freshman has a monster game.
And lots of tough games coming up…

Even Stirtz struggled from the arc. Koch hasn't shot well the last two games, 1-6 tonight.Terrible shooting outside of Stirtz.
On to Purdue.
True. Hard game to watch and a hard loss to stomach. But the sky is not falling. And I think we all expected that we might lose one of the 7 games, we were absolutely supposed to win. Maybe this loss lights a fire under our kids for the next two games. Both Purdue and Nebraska are beatable. Go Hawks.Rough way for the winning streak to end; team 2-10 in B1G and yet another nobody freshman has a monster game.

It was an incredibly annoying watch. A lot of our guys are prone to letting themselves get taken out of the flow by whistle happy refs. They can’t cope and our defense has stretches of never getting set.Couldn't really stop anything either. The defense was abused badly by dribble penetration and offensive rebounds all game long.
It will with better defense25% from 3 point land isn't going to cut it on the road.
A positive correlation will always exist between penetration and offensive reboundsCouldn't really stop anything either. The defense was abused badly by dribble penetration and offensive rebounds all game long.
Percentages say otherwise. Flush it and move on.It will with better defense
Just pisses me off as we traveled there to watch them since it’s only 3 hours and change to get there…they looked timid and just way out of rhythm… these are the losses that just piss me off and I am sure a lot of Hawkeyes .. they just looked like a hot mess. They better get their **** together before the next gameRough way for the winning streak to end; team 2-10 in B1G and yet another nobody freshman has a monster game.

Over time, sure.Percentages say otherwise. Flush it and move on.
When you're negligent, as a coach, when it comes to defense, you end up blaming things like the ball.Howard, Koch, Folgueiras, and Combs = 79 minutes combined, 1-16 from the field, 5 rebounds combined. Ugly.
Shoutout to the EVO NXT that Maryland uses, orange ball of death strikes again. Ben likely made the same mistake Fran did and doesn't practice with it leading up to road games. Take that sh* serious, man, shooters need to adjust.

The Wilson ball definitely affects shooters.Howard, Koch, Folgueiras, and Combs = 79 minutes combined, 1-16 from the field, 5 rebounds combined. Ugly.

I don’t know how we can fluctuate from looking really good to looking like a junior high team. That’s the most frustrating part. We seem to have things figured out, then turn around and look like we’ve never played a game before. We’re soft.Just pisses me off as we traveled there to watch them since it’s only 3 hours and change to get there…they looked timid and just way out of rhythm… these are the losses that just piss me off and I am sure a lot of Hawkeyes .. they just looked like a hot mess. The talent is already getting maxed out. You can't play above your head at all times.I don’t know how we can fluctuate from looking really good to looking like a junior high team. Don't forget Hausen. Bottom line, you can't always rely on Stirtz and Banks.Howard, Koch, Folgueiras, and Combs = 79 minutes combined, 1-16 from the field, 5 rebounds combined. Ugly.

Name a team Iowa has beaten ahead of them in the Big.?True. Hard game to watch and a hard loss to stomach. But the sky is not falling. Iowa struggled or lost againt 3 teams with 7 Big wins total.
A mediocre team that made a mild run.
Usually when you have a bad game you look for patterns.
when they lose to bad teams it isnt like the other team looked good. Iowa looked that bad. Like D2 overmatch.
Id rather watch this team than Fran any day
The defense was horrifically dead in the water on it's own merits. When the ball doesn't go in, it makes everything look worse.
Badly out-rebounded. Two turnovers tho ... is that even right?
Yes, in the context of college basketball, that was a sad, disappointing, frustrating outcome. Damn, beat Minnesota (the flu) and Maryland (whatever), and everything is looking fantastic (20-4, 9-3). The Hawkeyes would be rolling into the Purdue game on a 7-game streak in front of the first sellout in a long time. Last night sure took the luster off of Saturday. Of course, beat Purdue, beat Wisconsin, and at least split with Nebraska and we'd all feel much better. That's all it takes . . .Rough way for the winning streak to end; team 2-10 in B1G and yet another nobody freshman has a monster game.

As I said in another post, Ben and the guys would never use it as an excuse, but I'm convinced all the travel does catch up with teams, and it caught up with Iowa last night. How could it not? You're on the West Coast for several days, then back to Iowa City for one game, then to the East Coast. I don't care how young you are or what kind of shape you're in, the travel in a coast-to-coast basketball league matters. And it shows up in little energy, lack of focus, and poor shooting. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.Iowa played like they had little energy and focus IMO.
Defense wasn't up the this year's normal standards, but even last night's defense was head and shoulders above what we saw from Fran McCaffery teams. The defense was horrifically dead in the water on it's own merits.
That has nothing to do with anything. You gonna talk about Alford next?Defense wasn't up the this year's normal standards, but even last night's defense was head and shoulders above what we saw from Fran McCaffery teams.
We were fairly close on offensive rebounds, only outrebounded by 1. I'm not nearly as concerned with rebounding with this team as I was with Fran's teams. This team boxes out and places a premium on the boards. We just missed a ton of shots and were outrebounded defensively. I'm always more concerned with the offensive rebounds stats when looking at it.When the ball doesn't go in, it makes everything look worse.

Lol, stanzithemanzi is back! Makes sense why you made such an irrelevant hoops comment. Carry on.Yes it does. It has to deal with how our expectations of what good defense looks like has drastically changed in just one year. If this was last season, we'd think we played great defense against Maryland.
Fran's defense was like your golf game, fraudulent. But you did work at the Tournament Club of Iowa, correct?
