This is such a complicated crime to actually pull off successfully. I don’t know why anyone would think they could actually do it.

It’s all a distraction. I feel terrible for the woman and her family and do hope this turns out for the best for them; however, why is she specifically getting 24 hour coverage in the media? Did /Do other kidnapping victims get that type of attention? What about trafficked children? Where’s their multi-day media-a-thon?

why? because she is the mother of a high profile media figure, Savannah Guthrie.....while I agree and understand your point, this case creates clicks and views, which makes more money. Dawgstudent got more money just because of this thread.

At this point I think it’s a robbery gone wrong. She saw the person. He panicked and took her. Killed her later and disposed of the body.

Its interesting to see what people/situations grab media and public attention and what dont.
The claim that missing white blonde girls get attention while minorities are forgotten is a popular one to repeat. No idea how true it is, but its definitely been a popular explanation in my lifetime.

Elizabeth Smart was missing for like 9 months and the media circus around her abduction was intense and sustained. Why her and not others? No idea.

Yeah lot of weird scenarios where the media and others are extremely hypocritical. Like gun deaths in Chicago for example.

I dont know why gun deaths in Chicago isnt covered by all media more than it already is. I dont know why gun deaths everywhere arent covered more by all media than it already is.

- Perhaps it is hypocrisy, like you claim.
- Perhaps it is because those media outlets have determined higher customer interest and engagement exists elsewhere and media focuses elsewhere as a result. You know- a business decision.
- Perhaps it is a little of both of the above.
- Perhaps there are other factors as well.

The media covers what people are interested in. People in America are obsessed by celebrity, so anything involving celebrities will get covered to death. Also, Americans love attractive blonde women, so anytime those women are kidnapped or killed, the media covers that to death as well. The fact that a Mississippi State sports message board now has three separate threads on Savannah Guthrie's mother being kidnapped is proof that Americans are interested in the story, so the media will keep covering it.

That's right gun deaths in Mississippi are much worse. Mississippi gun death rate is almost double that of Illinois.

Yeah and where do those gun deaths happen in Mississippi?

We never hear about those mass shootings.

Oh that's easy. Because it's concentrated in black/minority/poor communities and the larger society has decided that violence there can't be fixed from outside or from the inside. So we put our fingers in our ears when violence (mass, solo, or cumulative) happens there. It's just violence among violent people. It doesn't impact me and I'm not stopping that, right?

Kids get killed or adults in spaces you see yourself occupying in your own life? Now we care about violence bc we then see it happening to us. It becomes an actual fear.

Human's crapped out nature. We suck.

What happened here is a kidnapping gone wrong, they snatched the old lady and she dies. The kidnappers, knowing they’ll have to provide POL, are scrambling try to salvage the situation and get some coin. The kidnappers are likely in Mexico by now, they hid the body somewhere in the local area.

not to hijack, however the FAA closing El Paso international airport for 10 days is WILD! Things ramping up at the border
The order was lifted a few hours later. Apparently stems from Pentagon and FAA disagreeing over using lasers to shoot down/disable drones.
